She's just been interviewed on C4 news and has said essentially the same as Jenni Murray.

The comments under that Facebook post are ridiculous. Male privilege doesn't exist because even as a tiny baby they knew they were female. It's such utter bollocks.

The level of education of most of the trans allies is woeful.

Hopefully the more this is out in the open and exposed, the more people will see it for what it is.

SweetGrapes · 11/03/2017 11:01

How about WART - Women Antagonist Radical Transperson ?

quencher · 11/03/2017 11:03

This is great. I think she doesn't take any st from anyone so she will be fine. As someone said earlier she is intersectional feminisms poster girl. I wonder if this is it? You know, are we finally at the turning point that so many of us have been waiting for ? God I hope so, I feel like I'm going mad. You know she has been saying this for years, right? She acknowledges trans. It's the experience that's different. She acknowledges that two. She has never said the two where same.

It's feels like a shift. To my shame I think I overlooked the fact that these women have power and influence. They are listened to. I don't get your comment. If it's what you mean, am disappointed and clocked that.

Am waiting for two more pieces to be written. I will see what angle they will take in regards to her response. People asked the two I follow yesterday for a response and they said they need to think about it.
It's interesting how so many people i know have stayed neutral. Am also, interested in the angle the "the huffingtonpost's black-voices blog will take. I know someone who writes for them is very pro trans and intersectionality.

Loving all the debate going on. Grin

With a debate like this, It's is when you know understanding sociology and biological science is helpful.

Have liked her page on Facebook. Put my stake in the ground!
Feel a little scared too!

MorrisZapp · 11/03/2017 11:19

I'll be honest, I'd never heard of her. I'd also assumed Nigeria to be a deeply patriarchal place where women are expected to do what they're told. Glad to hear a strong feminist voice from there.

MorrisZapp · 11/03/2017 11:26

I've liked her page too, and saw that five of my friends have already liked and shared her posts. I know they're pro trans so this might be interesting!

Beachcomber · 11/03/2017 11:49

Good for her and let's hope this plus Jenni will encourage other women to voice their opinions. It's a shame they have to do it in such a placating fashion (not mentioning AGP and saying stuff like trans is part of feminism).

I would love some brave well known woman to voice the idea that feminism is a women's rights movement and that transgenderism is a male rights movement and that it is for transwomen to fight for their right to be feminine men.
As long as there is the stupid insistence that "transwomen are women", feminism and transgenderism will always be in conflict.

The day the trans movement is fighting for transwomen's right to be feminine men is the day the two movements might have something in common.

But I don't see that happening.

And feminists can never get behind the transing of lesbians and children. Unless transgenderism stops worshipping gender it will have nothing in common with feminism but worshipping gender is the bedrock of transgenderism....

(Sorry for negativity)

boldlygoingsomewhere · 11/03/2017 11:53

I think I like FART - female antagonist radical transfers on.

I'm glad she has spoken out- the comments on her Facebook show a distinct lack of education and understanding of biology. If transwomen and women are the same and always have been, what is it they are transing to?

Lottapianos · 11/03/2017 11:57

She's a very impressive woman and I'm absolutely chuffed that she has backed Jenni Murray in this issue. Good for her

GatoradeMeBitch · 11/03/2017 12:58

The tumblrina's will be stressing about this. It's not so easy for them to demonize a black woman for her opinions...

QuentinSummers · 11/03/2017 13:03

Yeah. FART is good although I prefer transactivist. That way we could maybe drive a wedge between most reasonable trans people and TRAS, in the same way as they've tried to do with TERF

MsJuniper · 11/03/2017 14:12

In all seriousness I think it's a good idea to agree terminology. It has become so easy to shut women down with the TERF label.

dorade · 11/03/2017 15:22

Well said Beachcomber.

Transwomen issues are not feminist issues.

EatSpamAmandaLamb · 11/03/2017 15:29

I think FART is a great one.

Fauchelevent · 11/03/2017 15:53

Beyonce is transphobic because she assumed everyone was born from their mothers Grin i've heard it all

And yep its begun intersectional feminism demanding CNA throw herself in the bin

quencher · 11/03/2017 16:02

It's a shame they have to do it in such a placating fashion (not mentioning AGP and saying stuff like trans is part of feminism). Based on her previous work and belief, she says everyone should be feminist. Patriarchy is a feminist issue and that's what feminism is trying to tackle. When that is solved. Feminism should be made redundant. The same would apply to trans women too. They can be feminist.
What has become a feminist issue is trans rights encroaching on female issues. making it look the same like we went through the same things growing up. That is why she said transitioning women are transitioning women. They are becoming rather than ascribed at birth. To her biologically they are still men.
Yes! Trans is part of the feminist debate that's why we are having the debate, trying to dissect what it means to be a woman and whether the weight of femininity put upon us defines it.
She made it clear on what is a social construct and what is biology. In one of her talks (not the Chanel4 ) she does give examples of what is biologically female and male even though not referring to trans. She didn't placate anything. She answered it without being rude or transphobic. Even though most trans activist still think she was by pointing out differences and creating a debate.

@Gen funny! Is it not? When lemonade came out, it featured trans women too. They were given a node. But what was made clear is the difference is biological women vs a social contract. I bet lots of people didn't even noticed that. Grin I did. Most people are too hung up in what she wears than what is being portrayed and how. The feminism and race issues is the pinnacle of that album. And the fact that ms Freida features in every formation world tour shows her stance. I cannot see how she would not do that.

MsJuniper · 11/03/2017 17:21

Anyone on Twitter see the response from Rachel Willis? Mostly it is critical of CNA but she does include the tweets attached below which I thought was interesting - definite concessions that I haven't usually seen. Is this progress of sorts?

MsJuniper · 11/03/2017 17:21

(Sorry, Racquel Willis that should have been)

20nil · 11/03/2017 17:29

I love her. Thank you for being grave.

20nil · 11/03/2017 17:29

Brave Blush

AnyFucker · 11/03/2017 17:39

"Disposing" ? Hmm

Fauchelevent · 11/03/2017 17:51

AF, yeah the general call is to "throw terfs in the bin" and calling them trash

It's very very progressive dahling

AnyFucker · 11/03/2017 17:54

Jeez. I just got reminded of why I generally stay away from trans stuff.
