Why do people get so defensive over feminist issues?

'I write them because my handwriting is neater' when discussing Christmas cards.

"I didn't like my surname" when discussing name changing.

"There's no issue with stereotyping".

It's amazing how defensive people get when feminism is discussed and how much justification goes on. Sometimes you wonder if people can't see it - and think you are making a fuss about nothing.

I personally don't see any problem with writing Christmas cards etc. If you don't like it, don't do it

Many people do it despite not liking it because they would prefer doing the cards to the fall out if they didn't.

I didn't change my name but both DCs have DH's name. I asked him to think about giving DD my name but he didn't want to. I did go along with it for an easy life. That is a decision that was entirely down to The Patriarchy as if things were equal, we'd have split the DCs' names 50/50.
