Oh for fucks sake! Really?

Lorelei76 · 13/12/2016 15:01

I don't know how you get chosen for that committee - or any other tbh.

I guess someone high up agrees the wimmin have gone too far.

was it garlic who recently announced she was giving up on feminism? I don't think I can just yet but I feel like it ain't far off...

In the article it says that it was a Conservative party appointment, so it was done by a internal Conservative party ballot (presumably just the MPs). But... he was apparently unopposed. So no other Conservative MP stood for it.

TrionicLettuce · 13/12/2016 15:50

I wish I could say I was shocked but I'm just not Sad

I had the misfortune of living in his constituency for a while. He's a monumental bellend at the best of time, he'll have a field day with this appointment.

Xenophile · 13/12/2016 16:33

He's a cock. He makes no apology for it either.

He spoke at a conference in the summer where a rape victim's name was repeatedly mentioned and tweeted out under the conference hashtag. He did nothing.

2016 is the shit year that keeps on giving

Tweasels · 13/12/2016 17:31

It's beyond comprehension isn't it. I hope he'll have his arse handed to him by Jess Phillips.

amispartacus · 13/12/2016 18:12

Phillip Davies...that name sounds famiiiar

Gender pay gap denier
Feminist zealots
Appeared at Justice 4 Men and boys conference
"J4MB issues awards for “lying feminist of the month”, “toxic feminist of the month” and “whiny feminist of the month”, and promotes inflammatory articles on its website including a piece titled 13 reasons women lie about being raped."

You couldn't make it up...

Wasn't this the guy who likes to fillbuster debates?

www.independent.co.uk/news/people/philip-davies-bills-the-tory-mp-has-attempted-to-filibuster-a6743121.html

Still, good to see a straight, white male getting their voice heard.

70sDinnerPartyClassic · 13/12/2016 19:23

He also wants for more women to be sent to prison.

Just to add to the list :)

Oh and he doesn't like gay people either. (Surprise surprise).

Elendon · 13/12/2016 19:46

Can you imagine a climate change denier/sceptic being put onto a climate change committee? Or someone who is anti science being put onto a Science and Technology committee?

It's time for action.

Castelnaumansions · 13/12/2016 19:46

Thanks for posting this, I saw it. Vile. Wonder if he's mates with Anne Widdecombe who had women prisoners who were giving birth chained during birth ( to prevent them escaping)

It's the way it is going both sides of the Atlantic. Time to get busy.

DameDeDoubtance · 13/12/2016 20:01

Bloody hell, has someone declared war and women and not told them. Sad

amispartacus · 13/12/2016 20:11

Or someone who is anti science being put onto a Science and Technology committee

Well,, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Tredinnick_(politician)

He was on the health select committee.

And the new person in charge of the US EPA

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/dec/12/donald-trump-environment-climate-change-skeptics

BertrandRussell · 13/12/2016 20:15

Oh well, at least we've never had a Health Secretary who believed in homeopathy. Oh, wait.........

tribpot · 13/12/2016 20:18

So what the hell was the trade off inside the Conservative Party? Alright, you can have May for PM but only if we can put an anti-feminist on the equalities committee? That'll show these bloody women.

Of course, he joins the august company of UKIP's Godfrey Bloom, who was on the European Parliament's Committee for Women's Rights and Gender Equality, which must have been a true delight for the other members. He suggested that they were deliberately introducing legislation to protect women's rights so that small businesses would be unwilling to employ young women and the reason they did this was to ensure there were jobs for themselves when they left the European Parliament.

At least Philip Davies knows what to aim for.

Mind you I suppose he's upfront about it.

Rather than what happened with Keith Vaz and the prostitution committee thingy.

Maybe they just need to put women in charge of all this stuff. Oh, and do all the UN peacekeeping army type jobs while they're at it. I'm sure there's more.

Castelnaumansions · 13/12/2016 21:52

tribpot Shock Godfrey Bloom
Oh, and do all the UN peacekeeping army type jobs while they're at it. I'm sure there's more,
Wonderful idea 70s A take over could make it no worse.

If you look at what that fool Erdogun is doing to Turkish women's rights now too; in the 1920s, Turkish ( And Russian) women were getting equal rights. Now, Austrian and German fascists are all for Kirche and Kuche too for the female populace.
Maybe we just had our 1920s and didn't know it.

70sDinnerPartyClassic · 13/12/2016 21:56

Castel I do worry that the situation for women in the last 80 years or so in our neck of the woods ie improvement and getting so many rights, will turn out to be just a blip in history.

70sDinnerPartyClassic · 13/12/2016 21:58

Turkey
Poland
NI and Ireland never got there in the first place
UK our rights have been under attack periodically
Look what's happening in the USA
All getting rolled back
Racist, misogynist, homophobic etc people all coming out of the woodwork and working hard to "correct" society. Put women etc back where we're supposed to be.
Some people say this is the old order not giving up without a fight and it shows they are on the ropes.
I have a more pessimistic perspective.

amispartacus · 14/12/2016 15:02

Apparently he wants to rename the committee.

tribpot · 14/12/2016 16:01

The "Men First" Committee?

amispartacus · 14/12/2016 16:09

Apparently "Conservative MP Philip Davies told the BBC that men should not "be excluded from having their views" heard."

Straight white man is worried about having his views heard.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-38313555

He also wants: "so if I can bring some common sense to the committee that's surely a good thing. "

tribpot · 14/12/2016 17:48

Mansplainer in Chief. Brilliant.

amispartacus · 14/12/2016 18:04

Jess Phillips is on the committee. She won't take any mansplaining or 'but what about the men' from him.

70sDinnerPartyClassic · 14/12/2016 18:23

Thing with these MRA types is they don't ever want to actually help men, raise money do anything to help with stuff. What they actually want to do is get women to shut up, they are not pro-men they are anti-women. The only time they bother talking about bad stuff that happens to men is when women try to raise awareness of things that happen to them. It's pathetic.
