Feminisim and small penis jokes

I just read an amazing article about how many small penis jokes feminists tell. That seems to fly in the face of anti-body-shaming. I would love to discuss.

I am a man cursed with the problem, i am a feminist and work with an organization that helps women entrepreneurs. I am curious if you know how painful it is for a man like me to hear?

Erm yeah. That's just a bizarre article.

What Grab said.

Xenophile · 18/11/2016 22:46

Goodness, everyday "feminism" is a load of old shoemakers.

TomInAustin · 18/11/2016 22:47

GrabtharsHammer. The point i did not make very well is how many of us liberals and feminists use the "small penis" attack when they disagree with someone. Not that they are making fun of someone with an actual small one. Get it now? Like the statues and paintings of trump. The old "he must be compensating for something".

My point was... that using that is harmful. Like if someone heard a woman's quote and said. Oh, she must be fat. Silly and baseless.

Dreadful article

But lets discuss

So do you think tom that it is only feminists that do this or loads of people

And if it is loads of people why arent loads of people responsible for stopping it

It seems to be men who do it the most in my very limited experience

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 18/11/2016 22:49

Oooh i am not a liberal

Dont us me Smile

annandale · 18/11/2016 22:50

I hate body shaming too. Jokes about small penises are pre-feminist and have nothing to do with feminism. They are all about relating people's worth as a person to some kind of external rating of their biology, which is as antifeminist as it gets. Your biology is what it is and shouldn't affect how you are treated.

I have heard a lot of small penis jokes and comments, including on here. I don't always protest, though I do leave the thread.

almondpudding · 18/11/2016 22:50

So what is there to discuss? People who think a valid argument is that someone else has a small penis are very immature.

almondpudding · 18/11/2016 22:52

I'm not a liberal either. A discussion on what people mean when they say they are a liberal would be more enlightening than this penis discussion.

CaesiumTime · 18/11/2016 22:55

I'm not in with "us" either, thank you.

GrabtharsHammer · 18/11/2016 22:56

Not to be dismissive, but if you think that's the worst insult you could possibly hear, so much so that you feel the need to rally the MN feminists to your cause of eradicating it, I suggest spending some time as a woman online.

You'd then be subjected to a daily barrage of violent and terrifying threats, often the same ones churned out by different people. And when I say people, I do mean mainly men. Threats of rape, specific threats of horrific violence, threats about your children. 'Die in a fire' is a weirdly popular insult lately.

Why don't you expend some of your feministy energy on tackling that, Tom?

YonicProbe · 18/11/2016 23:01

I haven't read the articke, but past experience of everyday feminism tells me it will be a load of intestinal contents.

I'm sure you can do better op

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 18/11/2016 23:05

op ???

Its really difficult discussing this with myself

Apparently i am being really unreasonable Sad

I would also like to know what liberal is

Is it generous ? Ie "rufus is being very liberal with the jam"

I may need to google liberal

conserveisposhforjam · 18/11/2016 23:07

Is the basic premise here 'I hate it when feminists do this (really indefensible) shit to men'?

'Cos um...yeah...but do they? En masse I mean? And because they are feminists?

Shall we ask MN to pop this over in AIBU for you? And change 'feminists' to 'people'?

midcenturymodern · 18/11/2016 23:07

Everyday Feminism is well known to be a pile of shite. Even if you didn't know that, you have read an article saying penis jokes are bad because they assume only men have penises, and contains the word 'cisgender' and have chosen to take it seriously. You know how people say 'when someone tells you who they are, believe them.'? That can also apply to articles. If it reads like a pile of crap, it is a pile of crap.

I'm not a liberal.

TheWoodlander · 18/11/2016 23:10

TominAustin - I suggest you spend some time as a woman before you moan about penis jokes - not that I partake in or endorse such things.

Try having every part of your body - from your hair to your cheekbones to your lips to your boobs to your stomach to your arse to your thighs and any cellulite constantly analysed and commented on - and then try living the in whole "women must be attractive, women will be judged constantly on their outward attractiveness" thing before you moan about the tiny penis thing. No interviewer for a job ever said tiny penis thing - however women are constantly judged on their looks.

venusinscorpio · 18/11/2016 23:13

I'm convinced Everyday Feminism is a really convincing parody. It can't be real, it just can't.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 18/11/2016 23:18

Yep i had it right

"They consumed liberal amounts of wine"

In which case i may well be wrong, i might be liberal Blush

Sorry

GruffaloPants · 18/11/2016 23:28

It's difficult to discuss on the Internet as some men have a fetish for being insulted/belittled and talking about small penises, so women may be cautious to enter into a discussion without knowing the motivation.

As a general principle, it isn't exactly controversial to say no one should be shamed for their body.

YonicProbe · 18/11/2016 23:31

Jam and Wine sounds like an awesome diet, Rufus. Don't let the low carbers see..

EBearhug · 18/11/2016 23:32

I think most of the small penis jokes and comments I've heard have been from men.

SarcasmMode · 18/11/2016 23:34

It's just being a half decent human being.

If I'm going to insult someone it's for something they chose to do/say/behave 'arrogant asshole' or 'sexist pig' for example - not their penis size, hair colour etc.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 18/11/2016 23:43

yonic

Our chippy does battered jam sandwiches

I am really tempted...

Badgoushk · 18/11/2016 23:56

Tom, have you had people comment on your penis in real life?

ChipsForSupper · 19/11/2016 00:34

Just to be clear, can you give us some examples of the kind of jokes they say?

IAmAmy · 19/11/2016 01:04

God this angers me. The only people I have ever heard make comments about penis size are boys. Jokes and abuse about breasts on the other hand are aimed at us constantly...
