Yy, if there was ever a legitimate use (outside of actual PTSD) for the "triggering" phrase, it has been this case and the pond-life commenting on it.

Batteriesallgone · 15/10/2016 21:53

I actually feel better now than I did after the first guilty conviction tbh. I'm trying to unpack why - I think because hope is such a dangerous thing, and that's what that first trial offered. I'm more sad now than I was - but not as disconcerted.

EmmaMacGill · 15/10/2016 22:20

I thought I was walking around in one world, and now I find I'm actually in a much darker, scarier place than i thought
This
Babading I agree with everything you wrote, it's terrifying isn't it.
The disregard and contempt that is expressed towards women from not just some men but also some women is sickening and it's not just this case that highlights it. Comments coming out from the Trump revelations also show that to some, women are not people with thought and feeling but merely receptacles, orifices to be filled

badabing36 · 15/10/2016 22:20

Under I'm so sorry that happened to youFlowers.

I really agree with you about feeling so free and confident when you were younger and now feeling quite downtrodden by the world.

Xenophile · 15/10/2016 22:29

Under Flowers

I am so sorry that that happened to you. I am also somewhat glad that I didn't report. I will also think hard before I encourage a woman to report.

Yesterday was a terrible day for every survivor I know. I hope you feel on a more even keel today.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 15/10/2016 22:42

Oh, thank you. It's ok, it;s in the past. But you see what I do, I minimise it, i think lots of us do, because it's a way to survive. I feel for the complainant so much, I'm really worried for her, because I don't know how I'd handle so much hatred. I imagine she can't go online at all. I hope she knows how many of us support her.

venusinscorpio · 15/10/2016 23:34

No, you don't need to get a grip, badabing. You're quite right.

OlennasWimple · 16/10/2016 00:18

It's even worse than "if you have had sex before, you have clearly consented to having it with anyone who wants it". Rape victims also have to behave in a particular way afterwards, otherwise they were obviously making it all up Angry

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/10/2016 00:50

I wonder if the Women's Equality Party will make any comment on this.

I appreciate they cannot say anything which suggests the verdict is wrong but they can surely make a comment on the dragging her sexual history into it.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/10/2016 01:04

Thanks. They really ought to have.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 16/10/2016 10:17

petron

Oh my god her poor mother

And she died didnt she, so she never saw this second case

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/10/2016 10:29

And this too.

'Team Ched' show just how sick football culture in Britain is

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/10/2016 10:38

This is unbelievable. He's setting himself up as some sort of educational role model for young models and apparently thinking of suing Brabners, his former solicitors.

Ched Evans calls for more education on alcohol and consent

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/10/2016 10:38

Young footballers, not models

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 16/10/2016 10:40

lass

What a twat

Marbleheadjohnson · 16/10/2016 10:43

I don't think I can stomach reading that. He's a disgraceful cunt. He's basically Brock Turner's Welsh twin.

Well I'm interested in the "young women: how to avoid a man entering a hotel room by deception and sticking his penis into you" classes

DeleteOrDecay · 16/10/2016 10:48

He's so delusional.

merrymouse · 16/10/2016 10:48

“I have maintained my innocence from day one so I can never apologise directly for what happened but I can apologise for the effect it’s had"

He doesn't appear to have grown at all. He talks about alcohol, but doesn't appear to understand that other vague signs that you might look out for are

  1. you have spoken to the person with whom you are having sex
  2. you were invited into the room.

Other nice touches are not having a gang of friends outside the window filming the incident.

It appears that in his eyes, the thing that he did wrong was get caught.

venusinscorpio · 16/10/2016 10:49

YY Marble. The idea of Ched Evans lecturing young people about alcohol and consent makes my blood boil.

Marbleheadjohnson · 16/10/2016 10:54

He was invited into the room by his mate, and consent is transferable these days.

CharlieSierra · 16/10/2016 10:59

“When they are drunk, think twice about it.”

Oh my god. How about when they are drunk DON'T FUCKING RAPE THEM!!!!

Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

merrymouse · 16/10/2016 11:08

He was invited into the room by his mate, and consent is transferable these days

I'm using the more common definition of Being invited into a locked room that involves the door being opened for you.

The kind where you don't have to lie to get a key. I just think that as a vampire, CE would have had trouble getting over that threshold.

Homeriliad · 16/10/2016 11:16

Should we abolish trials for men accused of rape, and just jail them? It would mean women wouldn't have to endure going through a trial, which is very traumatic; and as this thread shows - being found not guilty just means he got away with it.

Having a trial means we are questioning the woman's story, which is typical of a patriarchal society.
