Welcome, everybody.

Happy Friday.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2016 19:30

My DH in his infinite wisdom decided to wake me at 4am to let me know Trump was winning. He thought I'd be interested. HmmI'm not interested in anything in the middle of the night unless its something I can do something about.

OublietteBravo · 09/11/2016 19:35

So America would rather elect a misogynist arsewipe with zero political nous than someone without a penis. I despair. I really do.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2016 20:00

That wasn't the only factor, but certainly one - R4 was interviewing some good folks, one woman said essentially she didn't think it was a job for a woman.

Other factors would be guns, immigration, anti-establishment, taxes, pro-life .... and also, looking at the small margin, there were those on the left wing who couldn't bring themselves to hold their noses and vote for Hillary. Plus disenfranchisement, and (according to DH's 4am report) apparently quite a lot of poorer people couldn't get to the polls.

So, not just because Hillary is a woman, but the number who ruled her out because of that was one of the many straws

NeverEverAnythingEver · 09/11/2016 20:05

I need a drink.

scallopsrgreat · 09/11/2016 20:14

So do I. Had a shitty day at work too. Was working from home and at one point I had 4 instant message conversations and a phone call going on at the same time.

Needless to say I didn't get much done.

Large red wine for me please. With a single malt chaser. And maybe a Baileys too. Not all in the same glass. Or may be all in the same glass. It is that kind of day after all. A car crash.

Thelilywhite · 09/11/2016 20:32

I stopped drinking afew months ago but I think I might start again. ...

Gahhh! Melanie Phillips on Newsnight.

They managed to discuss how Trump won without once mentioning misogyny. Simon Sharma and Phillips discussed racism (or rather Phillips wilfully denied its existence or that Trump is racist) but no-one brought up the misogyny. How can a supposed serious news programme not even mention the underlying disdain of women?

Fucking ridiculous.

More wine I feel.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 10/11/2016 08:09

Melanie Phillips? Is she the Daily Mail person? "Political correspondence" or something. The fact that the DM calls anyone they employ a "political correspondence" makes me laugh.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/11/2016 10:20

I wouldn't know about the DM, but Melanie Phillips has a regular comment column in the Times - I very rarely can bring myself read them. She's an anti-feminist (among other things). She's probably the main reason I stopped listening to The Moral Maze years ago too.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 11/11/2016 18:09

Barkeep, leave the bottle please

FreshwaterSelkie · 11/11/2016 19:26
DeviTheGaelet · 11/11/2016 19:54

Hi! I'll have a large glass please
Name change not work8ng out for me. And fed up of the feminist boards getting unfairly pasted

YonicProbe · 11/11/2016 20:00

Wine all round then!

FreshwaterSelkie · 11/11/2016 20:07

me too, devi. There's never any shortage of people popping up to say "Ooooooh, I NEVER go to the feminist board, they are nasty mean harpies that bully anyone with an opposing viewpoint".

They don't do that about the religion board, do they? I've never seen anyone post "Oooooh, I NEVER go on the religion and spirituality board, I just went on the prayer thread there once to say prayer doesn't work, and religion is just about fear of death and they were so MEAN to me! What sort of Christians do they think they are eh? They just don't want to hear an opposing viewpoint".

There was a great post on the first PL thread earlier about constantly being required to play defence and never getting to play offence. Constantly having to justify the most basic elements of why you believe what you believe...I know there are other areas that get this (political, environmental etc) but it really wears me down sometimes.

Sorry, am rambling. More wine, staff!

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 11/11/2016 21:15

T'all made sense to me selkie Grin

Wine Wine Wine

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 11/11/2016 21:17

I may get a harpy tattoo. I like harpies. Misunderstood, they are.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 12/11/2016 08:57

There were harpies in the Philip Pullman northern lights trilogy. But I can't remember what they were like. I think they like stories....

It's raining here.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/11/2016 11:32

They had the ability to know when they were being lied to. Their function changed from tormentor of ghosts in the land of the dead to their guide out of it.

DeviTheGaelet · 16/11/2016 10:43

So many new feminist posters on the board! It's nice to see. I can't keep up

DeviTheGaelet · 16/11/2016 11:05

Shame about the less knowledgeable "expert" men though

YonicProbe · 16/11/2016 14:03

zzzz tired

NeverEverAnythingEver · 16/11/2016 15:45

Me too. zzzzzzz

boldlygoingsomewhere · 16/11/2016 16:57

I'm getting very bored of the constant derailing - huge respect to those of you who have the patience to deal with it. I was looking forward to a good discussion...

YonicProbe · 16/11/2016 17:26

What patience?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

ooh, that's better!
