New anti-trans legislation in North Carolina

Of course it's been driven by the religious right wing. But it does aim to achieve what many posters here appear to advocate - namely that biological males can only use men's toilets and changing rooms etc. Biological females must only use women's toilets and changing rooms. Will it gain wider support?

That sounds like a very dishonest article. Feminists have said over and over again their main fear here is not genuine trans people but unscrupulous men exploiting the looseness of the legislation to abuse women. If the New York Times is suggesting people with concerns think all transwomen are voyeurs then they are either knowingly misrepresenting the facts or haven't bothered to check basic facts.

Wow ..CoteDAzure how timely for you to return just as I quoted the phrase "the imagination of bigots"

So because you have lived in Turkey (as mentioned by a pp) you can state with certainty that the inevitable reaction of the congregation would be to resort to murder and physical violence. Of course they would, they're Muslims after all.

I actually hope that your second time of posting the same inflammatory generalisation (what all 1.6 billion muslims would do) actually gets left by MN this time round.

BombadierFritz · 26/03/2016 21:39

Its important to remember iran in all this. Highest number of trans people in the world. Handily solves 'the gay problem' .2 birds one stone Whenever i am unsure if i am on the right side of history i always ask myself 'what would the ayatollah do?'

SlowFJH · 26/03/2016 21:40

Bombardier
It's interesting isn't it. The question (raised by a pp not me) wasn't about a mosque in a country with strict sharia law. It was just about a mosque in general. Your post is on a par with Matthew Doyle... "I confronted a Muslim woman yesterday in Croydon. I asked her to explain Brussels."

This thread should be in MN Classics, or just linked to every time someone asks what the tactics of SJWs are. It's like half of Tumblr was formed into one poster in the fires of Mount Doom.

I'm bizarrely fascinated by the whole thing.

The shaming element is quasi-religious.

SlowFJH · 26/03/2016 21:52

I'm hoping it goes into MN classics too. Especially the repeated stereotyping of all Muslims and all Mosques based on one MNer having lived in one Islamic country.

OP posts:
BombadierFritz · 26/03/2016 21:55

Not spotted the irony then?
"It's ridiculous that feminists are on the same side as racists, homophobes, sexists and religious fundamentalists."
Its great that you and the ayatollah would see eye to eye on this kind of thing. I remember you being very insistent on this the other day.

CoteDAzur · 26/03/2016 21:56

Slow - Are you calling me a 'bigot'? You have also called me 'Islamophobic' downthread, which is very far from the truth. (You must be aware that your arguments are very weak - Is that why you are resorting to personal attacks? Wink) Most people I know including many family members are Muslims. I dare say I know much more about Islam and Muslims than you ever will, and have no hatred towards or fear from Muslims.

And yes, that experience and knowledge allows me to say that if a bearded male were to put on a hijab and enter the women's section of a mosque, he could expect physical violence. Not that this would ever happen, mind you.

BombadierFritz · 26/03/2016 21:56

Grin almondpudding. Its great fun

CoteDAzur · 26/03/2016 21:58

I'm curious, Slow - What did you hope to achieve when you started this thread?

I'm wondering because I don't think you managed it, whatever it was, since it ended up with you calling people names and saying we are all bigots.

SlowFJH · 26/03/2016 22:02

Cote
So you are saying with certainty that your muslim friends and family would resort to murder. I just want to be clear. You said "would be lynched".

It's not often you see the OP derailing their own thread...

Cocolepew · 26/03/2016 22:13

I think in his head he thinks he's very clever and eloquent. Bless.

BombadierFritz · 26/03/2016 22:14

I am a bit suspicious that we are actually conversing with another microsoft bot, programmed to respond to key words with 'bigot' 'transphobe' 'racist' and repeat kkey phrases at random with no real reference to the ongoing dialogue

BombadierFritz · 26/03/2016 22:17

Its just really to gather evidence for some sad little thread somewhere about how threatening/racist/islamophobic etc etc etc those transphobes are on mumsnet, i expect. Prepare to be horribly misquoted somewhere soon.

SlowFJH · 26/03/2016 22:17

I am within MN guidelines. The only one of my posts which got deleted was when I quoted CoteDAzure. The topic of "What would them Muslims do" was brought up by another poster. Certainly not me. But I am entitled to respond to it.

And yes it is the very definition of bigotry and prejudice.

If you claim to know for sure that a person would commit murder (lynching) or voyeurism.. then yes that's bigotry.

You get away with it for now because society in general has not yet afforded the same protection to the trans community as we do to other once-oppressed minorities.

OP posts:
SlowFJH · 26/03/2016 22:20

Cocolepew
Do you have any contribution to make?

OP posts:
BombadierFritz · 26/03/2016 22:20

Did noone like my link btw? Its quite funny. Honest

BombadierFritz · 26/03/2016 22:22

(Actually the end bit of the article isnt funny at all but the main story is)

Cocolepew · 26/03/2016 22:22

No, I'd prefer to bang my head of the wall for half an hour.

Thank you for asking though 😊

PrettyBrightFireflies · 26/03/2016 22:24

If you claim to know for sure that a person would commit murder (lynching) or voyeurism.. then yes that's bigotry.

Fearing changes to legislation that will make it easier for predators to gain access to their victims isn't bigotry, though, is it?
That's just common sense, isn't it?

Why do transwomen want to increase the risk posed by predatory males in female spaces? No one has explained it to me yet?

CoteDAzur · 26/03/2016 22:30

I don't claim to know what any one person would think or do. That would be silly.

I do think I have a fair understanding of what would happen if a male dresses up in women's clothes and goes into a women's area among devout Muslims who have taken great pains to segregate males and females, notably in a Mosque.

"So you are saying with certainty that your muslim friends and family would resort to murder"

No, I'm not. My Muslim friends & family don't go to mosques and sit in sex-segregated areas. Not all (or even most) Muslims go to mosques to pray. You clearly don't realise that a certain section of Muslim society frequents mosques, and that their reactions to such things can be slightly more extreme than the rest.

I have an idea. How about we put this matter to rest once and for all:

You are male, right? Why don't you don a hijab and go to a mosque, and enter the women's section. Let us know how that works out for you. Or we can read about it in the newspaper Smile

SlowFJH · 26/03/2016 22:34

I'm challenging points (raised by others not me). CoteDAzure has said that the Muslims she knows personally and is related to would commit murder (lynch someone) in a hypothetical situation.

By definition she is pre-judging people based on her view of a crime they have not yet committed and might never commit.
