Women in leadership making room for transwomen (because you know how many women are in leadership roles)

Probably

As long as said transwomen feels like a women who the hell I am to question that

Their claim of being a women overrides everything else

Anna looking as she does yet being accepted as woman means that any man anywhere can throw on a dress (or I guess sweat pants and a tee) and go hang out in the female changing room at the gym saying they identify as a woman, and it would be the women objecting to this that were 'wrong'.

I'm happy to call Anna Anna and refer to her as she. I'm not happy for Anna to represent women or be allowed into women's spaces, jobs, sporting events, leadership roles etc.

If that means we need third and fourth spaces for transmen and transwomen, then so be it. But I really don't want to share mine.

MrsJamin · 20/02/2016 11:39

Indeed. If she were to be voted in as women's officer will she make time or care about any issues that do not affect her as transgender? I wish I knew people who could vote but do not.

FreshwaterSelkie · 20/02/2016 11:39

This is your prospective Woman's Officer in action.

PosieReturningParker · 20/02/2016 11:42

Anna...I'm sorry to break it to you, but...

Sophie38 · 20/02/2016 11:51

God, sorry, I feel really unkind now but seriously? I feel sorry for him. I really do. He looks like a nice guy.

He's just so bad at it. Sad

Sophie38 · 20/02/2016 11:52

Can you imagine if they did this on the Young Ones Grin

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 20/02/2016 11:56

Sadly I think if was 19/20 at uni feeling I could challenge and make changes I would probably support the transwomen movement. I was naive at that age and easily swayed in my opinion and most of all I would have wanted to appear liberal and forward thinking without really giving it that much in depth thought

VincentVanLowe · 20/02/2016 11:58

There is no way, at all, ever in the whole history of time, that a single woman would be elected to even the lowest office if they presented themselves and their policies or position the way Anna does in that video right there. No way.

Because Anna is so brave Hmm

whatdoIget · 20/02/2016 12:05

Oh yes I forgot, so brave. Actual women are not brave at all though. They have privelege Hmm

Mrsmorton · 20/02/2016 12:05

OK, firstly Anna Lee is shit so hopefully that will be the thing that stops Anna Lee getting in. Secondly, at what point do we really have to take trans women seriously? This has made me so angry, do trans women not understand that by allowing a "bloke in a wig" to identify as a woman, they are massively undermining their cause?

What a fucking shambles.

abbsismyhero · 20/02/2016 12:05

im very concerned about this i honestly feel im being degraded more and more by these trans women i feel something should be done but im at a loss as to what? i mean is there anyone who we can complain to? ive emailed nus but i doubt i will get a satisfactory response

Sofiria · 20/02/2016 12:05

I'm a student and so a member of the NUS by default. Wish I could do something about this, but I'm at a very left-wing university likely to support trans individuals over women as a form of virtue-signalling.

I'm sure he's a very nice guy and he should be able to participate in the union just like anyone else, but Women's Officer? Really? Of course Anna's male privilege is the only reason he sees this as remotely appropriate.

abbsismyhero · 20/02/2016 12:11

ive a 15 year old daughter she is going to be represented by this? anna even celebrates national period day who the fuck knew there was such a thing? fucking hell im all for openness and not bothered discussing sanpro but NATIONAL PERIOD DAY? none of my friends knew about this ive never heard of this shit really?

AyeAmarok · 20/02/2016 12:14

Fucking hell.

Just watched that video.

If Anna Lee wins this, it will really prove my long held belief that there really are far too many entirely mediocre men in powerful positions. Put there ahead of much more capable women.

She's awful. Truly awful. Leaving the whole gender issues aside (and I also believe that women's rights are being trampled on by yet another minority group, we are bottom of the pecking order), she is just not the sort of engaging, inspirational leader that is required.

VincentVanLowe · 20/02/2016 12:14

"Nice person" would most likely require some ability to empathise with people unlike themselves. "Nice guys" in the 'beta male' Elliott Roger whining entitled brat vein only differ from "trans women" in their 'self identification'. His 'friend zone' is "her" 'cotton ceiling'. They couldn't be more obvious about it.

FreshwaterSelkie · 20/02/2016 12:17

That video tickled me - they stood for communications officer while being terrible at communicating, so it's only natural they should stand for Women's officer while being...oh, finish it yourselves Grin

Transwomen celebrating National Period Day makes me feel squicky. Yuk. Not nice to feel appropriated like that.

Roomba · 20/02/2016 12:23

I actually know Anna Lee personally. She's lovely and very passionate about student politics which is great in this age of utter apathy on the part of many other students I am acquainted with (happy to refer to Anna as 'her' btw)..

But - I really do have to agree with the comments so many other posters have made here. For me, it's not even that Anna may not have the experience of many womens' issues via life experience, socialisation etc. Many other women may not have had direct experience of particular issues, but can educate themselves and listen to the voices of other women to determine what representation they require. For me - it's the platform Anna is usuing here - these are not womens' issues she is campaigning for here - these are Trans issues! She is actively pushing policies which will harm women and remove their safety and protection. And it's as if no one can say anything about this or they will be shouted down and blacklisted for being 'Transphobic' - what a joke.

No doubt some will think that my opinion is Transphobic. All I can say is that my position is quite the opposite - I feel that anyone should be able to live however they choose, and that they should be protected legally from discrimination for their choices. However, I will never agree that removing support from women in order to support other groups is the right thing to do. I will never advocate someone using their potential position to improve things for a completely different group of people than the ones they have been elected to represent. How does that help the women of Lancaster University?
