I think this is all we need to know. Why aren't all the other suicides a matter of news headlines?

There's also the fact that IF there is ONE of those picture-book, perfectly nice transwoman in an office, school, whatever, who wants to use the women's toilets because there are better mirrors, or whatever, that wouldn't be a problem if no one minds and therefore no one reports it.

Legal leverage to get men the hell out of women's spaces is necessary to keep creeps out, no matter how many perfectly nice people there are who should be exempt from the rules.

I am pretty sure no one wants to install cameras to make sure that no man ever, after politely explaining the situation, walks into the ladies' room to change his baby's diapers on the table there, or whatever.

You can argue about objective measures (like actually having surgery or having been on hormones) as regards transition, but 'living as a woman', or even just 'identifying AS a woman', these are presumably the measures that some people would like the law changed to reflect.

According to these, I'm NOT a woman, since I neither identify as one (I just AM, being an adult human female), nor do I 'live as one' in the way that it is meant here.

Odd how you add ONE word, and think about 'living as a black woman' something that Rachel Dolezal did quite successfully for quite a few years and it is somehow NOT okay. But remove that one word again, and suddenly it is OKAY and laudable and gets you moved in with the girls...........Despite your ‘seven-inch surprise’.........

Have been following Miranda Yardley on Twitter, and it's fantastic to see a TW saying what we've been saying - that TW and bio women have different experiences and needs. She's been embroiled in a debate with this charmer. Miranda has been saying that the latest (extremely violent) trans prisoner to die In custody had no place in a women's prison.

If the claim is people are in danger of violence in the male loo/prison etc, then surely the answer is......

See, I'd actually have no real problem with Miranda Yardley in a woman's space because I think she really understands what we're talking about and what women's spaces are for. However, I also think that cherry picking individual transwomen and inviting them in can't work.

It doesn't need to be proved. They attempted to weasel out of having to provide evidence by saying they weren't calling her a transphobe or anything, it was just that someone else had said it. Utterly pathetic.

Considering that men's prisons are bigger, there are more of them, so visiting is easier, etc ... I am all for it.

Could get a bit crowded in the women's prisons, though, if we put all the XY chromosome criminals in there.

I read a piece in the Times (I never buy a newspaper so don't judge) today (Cosmo Landesman (sp?)) about suicide, and apparently it's a predominantly male activity.
Men kill themselves in considerably greater numbers than women.
So probably not more likely because this person was MtT, but because they are male.
The piece also stated that no one has any evidence as to why men are more likely just that it is linked masculinity.
The rates have risen recently.

Another, unrelated to suicide, but definitely a feminist issue, was that the gender pay gap starts with pocket money.
