I don't know if it was a case of attempting to put a Woman in her place or not wanting to do extra work.

I was picking up a new car today. I ordered as Ms. The paperwork was Miss so I said I would like it changed. My goodness the almighty fuss they caused when I asked to have my preferred title used. First out came Mr big boss, aggressive and going in for attack to squash me into submission. Second came Mr middle manager trying to rile me with a huge grin on his face loving the whole thing.

In the end I won, it took an hour and a half, me keeping them on focus, loads of suggestions, a threat of wanting a refund. In the end I thanked the big boss for sorting things backing down and he said stop you're making my blood boil. Confused Shock Mr salesman kept out of it and later when showing me how to use the radio, told me his partner is a feminist.

I am new to all of this and dread to think how hard it's been in the past. I only wanted my title of choice, you would think I was trying to take a car for free, due to the uproar. Shock

poy - it's trivial to you because it will never (or at least very, very rarely) happen.

Do you know how many of the services I use persistently get my title wrong? > 50%

With some of them I've made multiple attempts to get them to correct my name.

And, nice try at the digs - I think you'll find that a lot of the women here have demanding full time jobs, and kids and still can manage to think about other things too. If you're finding your job a bit much perhaps you should find something less stressful.

All women should be M
All women should also be able to call themselves Mrs if they wish
All men should be Mr
If people want to be gender neutral that's fine too.

My email service provider has me as male. Because only men set up websites. I have asked them to change it. They have asked me to send proof (like a birth certificate). Having worked in various backgrounds, a birth certificate is not proof of id.

All I am asking them to do is change from 'Mr' to 'Ms' but apparently this is a terribly difficult task.

I've been Ms since I was old enough to realise there was a difference between men and women.

A year or two ago I was admitted to hospital. During the booking in process, which happened around 2am when I was not entirely compos mentis, I was asked name, marital status etc. From then on I was always addressed as Mrs Slug. Which pisses me off immensely as I'm Ms Slug. I was generally too ill to complain, though I did get my revenge when DH came to visit me and had to endure the consultant and nurses constantly addressing him as Mr Slug. The poor man was very confused as I've never used his name (preferring the far more aristocratic Slug to his somewhat common surname).

When Dh finally got around to correcting them, there was a bit of a surprised reaction as they had made the assumption that married = Mrs = husband's surname.
