Ooh ooh! Do I get to start it?

Wine and cake all round. And a celebratory burst on the patriarchy-blasting cannon!

Old pub here

Sorry, Dx = diagnosis. It's medical jargon and I should know better.

WilLiAmHerschel · 13/07/2016 12:49

DX means diagnosis on mn I think.

I have no idea where they are easily handed out. I have ASD that went undiscovered until adulthood. If I had a diagnosis in my childhood or teens I think my life would have been different. Well no, I did have diagnosises in my early twenties for anxiety, depression, bipolar. A CORRECT diagnosis might have been more helpful.

Felascloak · 13/07/2016 13:27

That poster is either trolling or extremely naive I think. I'm ignoring her now. It is ridiculous. I nearly died after gps misdiagnosed me for 3 months then got told it was my own fault for presenting with unusual sprogs. While DH goes with a headache and gets sent immediately to a and e. GRRRRR.

Felascloak · 13/07/2016 13:28

Sprogs! I do have unusual sprogs but I meant symptoms!
vestal children are awesome imo. Do it!

Xenophile · 13/07/2016 13:57

It's not just her, it seems to be a universal belief.

VestalVirgin · 13/07/2016 23:46

Ah - the "handed out like smarties" made me think more of medication than diagnoses.

Getting a diagnosis out of a psychotherapist is like trying to get blood from a stone, in my experience.

The only one I ever got was depression, and I was only told that because my therapist was worried about me. Apparently, the general consensus is that they don't want to "label" you.

Of course we wash our hands.

The way I'm feeling now I'm inclined to wash my hands of everything...

FreshwaterSelkie · 17/07/2016 16:52

So, I was just idly googling "when men invade feminist spaces", you know, for no reason whatsoever , and I was pretty shocked at the results I got back.

Of the first ten results, EIGHT of them linked to anti-feminist/anti-woman articles about how to exclude women from men's spaces, FIVE of which linked to overt MRA sites (Men Going Their Own Way, A Voice for Men and reddit MRA).

Page two contained much the same weighting, including offerings from such delights as Return of Kings (rape apologists), "Anti Feminist Tech", and "The Rational Male".

WTF?? I was kind of hoping for a few enlightened articles to mull over about the ways in which men and women take up space, physically and online, and it was entirely overrun by men's issues. I can't help but feel there's a point to be made there somewhere...Hmm

Felascloak · 17/07/2016 17:22

Yes why were you looking that up? Grin

I just did the same. Really scary Shock

Found this though kareningalasmith.com/2013/12/16/thanks-and-all-but-no-thanks-i-dont-want-men-in-my-feminism/
www.feministtimes.com/space-invaders-men-in-feminist-spaces/

FreshwaterSelkie · 17/07/2016 17:35

I know, what a weird thing to do for no discernible reason, eh? Grin

Those two articles were the beacon of sense in a sea of MRA dross.

Felascloak · 17/07/2016 17:41

I read the rationale male article. Need some sort of revolted emoji......it was quite disturbing. Apparently work is a male space that we've infiltrated Hmm

JacquettaWoodville · 17/07/2016 20:15

Ah, work is a male space, is it?

Wonder if the spinners, weavers and wool carders of old knew that? The crop-pickers, hearth cleaners and housekeepers? The governesses and the nuns? The nurses and the seamstresses?

Or is it just sitting at a desk tapping a keyboard that rightfully requires a penis?

is too much of a Lady to imply anything about penis size and key hitting ability

Felascloak · 17/07/2016 20:27

I don't dare link the rational male article in case it leads them back here. But he is not a rational male.
I'm trying to think of a way to restart the hating thread without bringing our pal onto it. It's been totally detailed now Angry

Further to my last posts in the old ones, I've been talking to my dh who deplores a lot about the way boys are brought up. He says anything that looks like empathy is stamped on

In the Times today there is an article about how, compared to little boys, little girls are read more stories (rather than factual books) and have nursery rhymes sung to them more with the result that the boys are far behind in their communication and understanding, potentially for ever. The recommenadtion is that people should treat their boys like girls on this score.

JacquettaWoodville · 17/07/2016 21:00

That's interesting, KindDT

VestalVirgin · 17/07/2016 22:08

Or is it just sitting at a desk tapping a keyboard that rightfully requires a penis?

I suspect that it is the earning a living wage part that requires a penis. Because if people with uteruses could earn a wage that a small family could comfortably live on then ... women might decide we don't need males.

JacquettaWoodville · 20/07/2016 16:57

Right then, sisters. Do you wanna build a snowman treehouse?

I take it we don't need to discuss periods here then?

JacquettaWoodville · 20/07/2016 17:16

Can't we leave the cannon in the pub? Take turns to woman the Vipers' Crows' Nest to look out for intruders?
