The whataboutery is maddening. There's been a few times recently that I've had to check which board I'm posting on, because I've found myself having to defend or clarify basic feminist positions, like believing women that women who say they have been sexually assaulted. Too weird.
ANYHOO! In better news, are you all aware that France is hoping to criminalise buying sex, as of today? The final debates are just happening.
Men buying sex can would be fined 1500E, with a penalty of 3750E for recidivism. And they will be sent on a course to understand "the conditions of prostitution" (which I think is a great idea). Soliciting would no longer be a criminal act. Foreign nationals who want to exit prostitution will be granted a 6 month leave to stay in the country to help them exit.
I don't know if english language media has picked it up yet, but for any French readers (or possessors of google translate!), here's the le monde link.
Usual arguments for and against, as you'd expect, so everything crossed it gets through.
