I miss reading her posts and I've just seen on another thread that she deregged. Sad

I name change a lot and lurk more than I post on the feminist boards so buffy won't 'know' me but i miss her! (In a non-stalker way). If anyone speaks to her tell her to come back because some random on the internet said so!

I'd like to say thank you to Buffy, too, for everything she contributed to this forum. Her thinking and patience and lucidity are extraordinary, and she is also really witty, which made many threads not just thought-provoking but enjoyable to read. I'm angry at the circumstances that led her to leave, but happy that some other women, in some part of her life, will be getting the extra share of her wit and wisdom that she used to reserve for this place.

Has Jeanne/LRD left, too? Or name-changed? I haven't seen her in a while.

StormyBrid · 13/06/2015 11:45

Sure I saw a post from Jeanne the other day. Hopefully she's just lurking at the moment?

I was so surprised when I came here and saw these people actually declaring their feminism in their usernames. Refreshing, that it could be something to be proud of rather than ashamed. Also it was mega cool having a dragon and a vampire slayer around.

TeiTetua · 13/06/2015 15:00

My memory is that the admins deleted one of Buffy's posts for "troll hunting" and I thought at the time, "That must have hurt her feelings". She didn't leave immediately after that, but it wasn't long. Maybe it was facing attacks and not being allowed to respond as she wanted that got her discouraged, but I certainly hope she'll return to the fray.

blueBooby · 13/06/2015 15:07

Oh no I hope Jeanne hasn't gone too!

OP posts:
PuffinsAreFictitious · 13/06/2015 16:21

I don't think that the fact she was deleted for a completely spurious accusation of troll hunting helped much. Especially in the light of the comments that MNHQ let ride from a core of 3 or 4 posters.

RufusTheReindeer · 13/06/2015 16:48

I agreewithte and puffin

SenecaFalls · 13/06/2015 17:05

I remember that deletion business. It was so unfair. I think a lot of us complained to MNHQ to no avail.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/06/2015 01:22

I'm sure I've seen quite a few posts from jeanne recently, and there was one from LRD under her old name but I think she's NC'd not gone.

PomeralLights · 14/06/2015 02:04

Yeah I thought that deletion was bang out of order considering what the people / pp 'offended' had said about and to Buffy upthread.

It's like some of the deletions on the trans threads recently, MNHQ seem worried about any and everyone being upset EXCEPT the 'strong' feminists...even though we all NEED people like Buffy to speak for us when we struggle to articulate our oppression.

All the trolling of FWR and people moaning that the feminists on here aren't nice pisses me off. MNHQ should stand behind this board not join in undermining it. Sisterhood my fecking arse :(

TooOldForGlitter · 14/06/2015 02:41

I'm sad to see this. Buffys posts resonated with me because I'm not very clever and I understood what she was saying. I hope she's happy wherever she may be.

diggerdigsdogs · 14/06/2015 05:16

Oh dear, another one who is very sorry to see Buffy go. Sad

pastmyduedate0208 · 14/06/2015 20:48

Can't believe it! The trolls and mra types have actually "won" then.
They will b so bored without a buffy.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/06/2015 21:26

Nah, they haven't won. We can scoobygang them. Once more into the breach, dear friends!

RufusTheReindeer · 14/06/2015 21:52

Bagsy being Shaggy

SweetAndFullOfGrace · 14/06/2015 21:53

I will never be as calm or as erudite as Buffy but I'm willing to have a go at repelling boarders. Cannon at the ready.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/06/2015 22:27

I call Velma. I love Velma.

MephistophelesApprentice · 15/06/2015 16:55

Also sad Buffy has gone. She made me think a lot.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 15/06/2015 17:58

Not sure it was trolls or MREs that led Buffy to think that here was not a place she wanted to be anymore. Trolls and MREs are generally too stupid to do anything other than laugh at.

The discussions that become most wearing for me go like this:

Feminist: X is a problem that women face, as evidenced by

Poster A: I've never experienced that, nor have any of my female friends, so you're wrong.

Feminist: Glad neither you nor your friends have never experienced X, however, it is something that many/most women experience.

Poster A: You're telling me that I'm lying. This is what's wrong with feminism, you have to see women as victims all the time, blah blah blah

Feminist: That's not what I said at all, I said that most women experience it, not that you must have done.

Poster A: endlessly circle argues that that's what Feminist meant while going on endlessly on other bits of the forum about what a bunch of hostile/wanky/stupid/insert insult here bitches everyone on fwr is.

It's tiring. And it stifles honest debate and discussion.

So, I imagine that if someone as grouchy as I am has enough, eventually, the ever reasonable Buffy was going to been worn down as well. Well done, those women, what a service you've done to this community!

SenecaFalls · 15/06/2015 18:58

That sums it up pretty well, Puffins.

PomeralLights · 15/06/2015 19:42

Yeah, Puffins Sad

PomeralLights · 15/06/2015 19:46

Oh and also Poster A saying 'I've experienced it but it doesn't matter, after all it's just banter/being careful/throwaway comment/not important /insert patriarchal excuse as to why everyday sexism is apparently irrelevant to feminism.

Oh and the constant comparison of vaginas to cars/laptops/other property on threads discussing rape and sexual assault, or is it just me that finds that horrendously upsetting?

Heckler · 15/06/2015 20:05

Puffins - you nailed it there

Heckler · 15/06/2015 20:10

Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if the goady fuckers who would follow her around and make nasty remarks that were "just inside" the talk guidelines helped.

(hope I am not way off the mark there)

PuffinsAreFictitious · 15/06/2015 21:46

Oh, I don't know that that's what Buffy feels, it's just how I feel sometimes. That and the deeply sexist view that feminists should be nice all the time, because women should be nice all the time.....

And yes Heckler, I'd agree that the group of 2 or 3 regular GFs who did just that probably added to it all. After a while, no matter how well read or educated you are in a subject, being constantly belittled and snarked at by the same 2 or 3 people must get more than a bit dull.

SunsetsAndStarlings · 15/06/2015 21:52

Very true Puffins. Why can't these women who slate the FWR board and contributors just SEE what they are doing! They are playing into the grubby hands of the very people who hate them.
