Hot Girls Wanted.

This 2015 Sundance Film Festival breakout documentary from producer Rashida Jones spotlights the “amateur” porn industry and the women it exploits

I watched this documentary yesterday, and wondered what others thought of it. ( it's grim viewing and not work friendly)

I found it alarming. The thought that 40% of online porn features abuse and that the number one search term for porn is "teen" worries me. One if the girls is choked on a penis and large plastic penis until her eyes are bloodshot and she vomits, she's then told to eat the vomit with her face pushed in it. How can anyone be aroused by that? It's frightening.

Their descriptions of their experiences are saddening. I'll copy my posts from the pub, but I just wondered what others who watched the documentary feel about it, and how teenage girls in porn are treat.

"lol who again. Someone who feels sceptical a lot?"

Someone whose scepticism is only ever directed at FWR threads, whatever his latest username.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 03/06/2015 21:10

Just wondering why someone would spend time here when they could be spending time on other websites if you get my drift.

Maybe the punishment thing goes the other way Grin

wuvvalin · 03/06/2015 21:13

I guess you people haven't heard of the "femdom" genre of porn?

BDSM themed porn doesn't always portray a man as the "dom"

wuvvalin · 03/06/2015 21:14

"Even MRAs accept those studies of rapists. Karen Strang did a video on it. "

Is Karen Strang the spokesperson for the entire MRA movement?

YonicScrewdriver · 03/06/2015 21:15

Maybe he likes the punishment of the banhammer?

almondcakes · 03/06/2015 21:16

Whirlpool, the pornhub study found the most watched porn by women was lesbian, with gay male porn second. Both were more popular than any kind of het.

wuvvalin · 03/06/2015 21:17

"I thought the 40% figure was for violence against women, not abuse."

Even if so, what exactly would constitute "violence against women" for the purpose of this statistic?

What about a video where a consenting adult woman playfully smacks the bottom of another consenting adult woman? Would that be violence against women and count towards the stat?

almondcakes · 03/06/2015 21:18

I don't know. There are only about 12 MRAs and as half of them are always on here trolling. Who knows about any power battle between Karen Strang and the remaining five.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 03/06/2015 21:19

lol @ banhammer Grin

Just the idea of coming into the place where the "scary" women live and trying to get told off Grin

And lol @ OBVIOUSLY the idea of blokes liking punishment from a woman is FLABBERGASTING to us. I mean, it's not like famous tories men are in the papers regularly having been caught at it.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 03/06/2015 21:20

almond that is really interesting.

So mainstream het porn is not something that women want to watch. They watch gay porn. Most of the women in the population are lesbians, and an even smaller proportion are gay men. I find that piece of information very revealing.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 03/06/2015 21:21

Are NOT lesbians, that should read Grin

almondcakes · 03/06/2015 21:39

Whirlpool, I think most women looking for sexual content don't want to watch porn, but would rather read fiction or illustrations (comic books with sexual content etc), and a lot of the content of that is same sex.

But the top two categories in porn viewed by women are same sex. They're both more popular than straight porn labelled as being 'for women.'

INickedAName · 04/06/2015 00:24

Another thing that concerns me, I worry that dd (and other girls) will be expected to repeat these acts when she is older. It might sound far fetched, but if these abusive scenes are mainstream, and so easily accessible it's possible that any future partner could have gotten their knowledge of sex from these films, and think that's how things should be, they'll be able to show them websites and videos saying "all these girls do it/like it"

A substantial percentage of people enjoy watching others being degraded, hurt and humiliated. That's why we have News International, Heat magazine and realityTV.
This is an interesting piece on the documentary in question.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 04/06/2015 05:54

Interesting SGB.....

To quote someone on Twitter "Anti-porn documentaries would be so much better if they were pro-porn."

I mostly agree TBR but do not think that if the person has it in them to be a rapist that a lot of things can have an influence? i have this argument about computers games all the time. Yes I'm sure there are people out there that have have done bad things because of computers games but there is also a huge percentage who play them without any kind of reaction to them. What's to say that if computers games didn't make them go an murder someone, it wouldn't have been eastenders, a Johnny cash song, a book, the news. Whatever

sgb good point re heat etc. that is true.

Mide7 · 04/06/2015 08:30

Sorry TBR I misunderstood. I agree with your points.

Maybe I'm being naive here, speaking as someone with a very young daughter, it's up to me to teach her what I believe are the correct attitudes to sex and relationships. To teach her that porn isn't always reflective of real life.

Like I said maybe I'm being naive and when she's older and it's not relevent I'll feel different.

One question that springs to mind is what impact the mindset of the viewer based on their country may impact viewing and searches. The sexualitics research of 2014 is interesting because of the keyword analysis which suggests Russians seem to search for baby sitters, teens, Old+Young while British searches are Stuckings, Bukkake and Celebrities. Not sure what to make of the Germans with Vintage, Gothic and Grannies being their top 3 searches. Of course this research can only theorise but cultural impact may affect porn and what Russians watch seems a lot more damaging than the Germans. I haven't watched the hot girls wanted as we don't do netflix and 2 hours watching the tablet may be a little much but I might try at the weekend.

sausageeggbacon11 · 04/06/2015 10:13

On the subject of Karen Straughan she was originally known as Girl Writes What on you tube. She is part of the Honey Badgers Brigade who are anti feminist women. She debates all over Canada and the US. If you watch her videos you will be surprised at how well argued her points are. I have watched some of her shorter videos and I will at least listen to her opinions. Some do make me question things and others are just opinion pieces.

She is very influential in the MRA movement and contributes regularly to A Voice for Men. Her reach on youtube is pretty substantial as well.

FujimotosElixir · 04/06/2015 10:18

ill probably not watch it but yes its the extreme violence that worries me, i have 2 sons and if the extent of porn was just the couple videos with a shaky hand held camera i wouldn't be as frightened.
