There is a debate on FB and I am not smart enough to tackle it but interested in your views if you have the time to read it.

It was almost like Everyday Sexism were claiming most British men have been inexorably sexist from age seven, when most of us first saw it on a bedroom wall of an older sibling or school pal.

Far better that most women be inexorably objectified from age seven? I saw it as a child, before I had a sexual identity. Along with many, many other such images. What does it teach girls about the role of women in sport, society and during sex?

I don't even really know where to start with this. It's classic derailing, putting a "smaller" women's issue against a "bigger" men's one to try and show that feminists are being petty.

In some regards I agree with him, there needs to be more investigation and support regarding mental health including male mental health and it could well be that prostate cancer care is underfunded. My local football club has been very involved in supporting prostate cancer awareness and support and in doing so has drawn attention and funding in much the same way Race for Life has boosted women's cancer support and awareness.

That doesn't mean that the poster and the general objectification of women is acceptable in modern times, the reduction in assaults could well be attributed to a change of social attitude to woman, the passing of the age of the Carry On, Benny Hill and many would say Page 3.

I wanted to chime in with my opinion but didn't know where to start really. While I have obviously always been a feminist I am very new to divulging into it deeper, if you know what I mean.

Also, regarding prostate cancer, it's an old man's disease. In a lot of cases the treatment is worse than the cancer. Dh's grandfather had it , aged 91, and to be honest it was the least of his problems.

It would be great if there was more help available for those suffering with MH problems.

Surely prostate cancer charities are less funded than somes others because men do not organise charity fund-raising, which women's charities are quite good at.

I find it very hard to get worked up about Tennis girl poster. I don't particularly like it but I didn't particularly like the men in boxers Levis ads or the Diet coke ads. I'd put all 3 on the same level of irritation, with the Diet cokes ads as the worst.

I think he has a fair point about the apparent lack of interest in illnesses that can only affect men.

Nobody has to decide between rights for women and more publicity for prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is slow spreading, relatively easy to treat and affects mainly elderly men. It

What jumps out at me most is how he is trying to connect the everyday sexism movement to men committing suicide and dying from cancer. It doesn't make sense to do that but from the gleeful comments below you can see there are people just glad to have an excuse to stick it to the evil feminists.

Also, why are there no links to stats to support his claims about the sexual assaults because they certainly don't sound anything like other stats I've heard about.

As for the "it's an old man's disease" -really how callous. My mother was succesfully treated for breast cancer at 75 and unsuccessfully for leukaemia at 79- would you say she shouldn't have been as she was an old woman?

From the prostrate cancer web-site - Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50, and your risk increases with age. The average age for men to be diagnosed with prostate cancer is between 70 and 74 years. If you are under 50, your risk of getting prostate cancer is very low. Men under 50 can get it, but it isn’t common.

It's not that still lost, it's that many men getting it are of an age where they already have health problems more serious and pressing than prostate cancer.

FIL had it last year, 74 and nothing else wrong with him. Prostate removed within 2 weeks, regular testing to make sure it hadn't spread, which it hadn't. Ward full of men in the same situation.

No, they're dying because men appear not to give a fuck about other men. They're killing themselves because men are not providing them with support, because they're apparently not real men if they don't perform masculinity, because apparently real men don't get depression or go to the doctors. Yet again men are the problem but much easier to blame women, instead of admitting that men are largely responsible for the damage done to both men and women.

The rule of thumb I have always heard is that 90% of men 90 and up have prostate cancer, and that it's a slow enough cancer that men over 85 are not treated for it: statistically, they're much more likely to die of something else than a cancer that takes 15 or more years in an elderly person to kill you.

Thing is of course, that all CALM or any other male specific charity needs to do is ask the successful women's charities what helped them. I have no doubt they would help, they just won't do it for them. Good to know Daubers is going to be helping to promote and fund them both.

Not sure I've met a single feminist who thought it was a good thing that the male suicide rate is so high, in fact, I know some who are or have actively worked to help stop that. As Buffy says, it's not women's fault that they do this, it is the kind of toxic masculinity which says that men who ask for help are weak, and isn't helped by the endless media hype about how everyone with MH problems are a danger to society and just need to go for a run. Who owns and runs the media?
