On the Valentine page on Lidl website

Is this:

  1. So cute - I luffs him, look what he gave me...
  2. A great step forward: at last the retail sector has realised that Power Tools are for Life, not just For Father's Day
  3. Oh, great, now women have to add DIY to the Having It All list of responsibilities
4.. Have they learned NOTHING from the Pink Bic debacle?
  1. It just doesn't have enough torque, and I wouldn't look at anything that doesn't have a percussion chuck...

I don't think sexist messages around consumer products are acceptable. But I don't think a pink screwdriver is sexist. I absolutely would if I were forced to buy a pink screwdriver if I wanted a black one instead.

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 12:44

And that's why I wanted to clarify. Because it's a ridiculous notion. But I'm not going to make assumptions on what you think or mean, based on a handful of posts you've made.

SardineQueen · 07/02/2015 12:44

So as long as options are available then marketing some things at one sex and others at another - and possibly deriding a sex for using or doing something that is "not for them" - is not a problem?

Or is it?

I think that a man would be derided for using a pink screwdriver in most situations.

SardineQueen · 07/02/2015 12:44

But because he can buy a pink one if he wants then that's not sexist.

? I think?

FloraFox · 07/02/2015 12:46

The arsey part was dropping links to pictures of things on the internet (only one of which seems to actually be for sale) with a remark about "infinite space". Like "gotcha! you're all wrong".

I'm not actually sure if you have a different opinion. You don't really seem to have an opinion apart from "nothing to see here".

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 12:47

I think that a man probably would.

Reversing the situation I don't think a woman would be derided for using a black screwdriver.

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 12:48

I didn't make any remarks about infinite space.

Oh, I did!

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 13:03

I made the comment that LIDL doesn't have infinite space to stock every colour of every item. I forgot I had worded it as such, and thought you were referencing a comment someone else made, which when I checked back wasn't infinite space, but the limitless of the internet

I linked to the pictures just to show that there was a range of different coloured tools. I apologise I didn't link to specific places that they were for sale. I assumed the fact that they existed meant that they were presumably available for sale.

That's all. That's my opinion. I've been trying to respond to anything being asked of me but I think I'll leave it there because it's derailing the OPs thread and we aren't going to 'get anywhere'.
