However, I did experience some tool lust in Maplins the other day, And I also am very tempted by a CircuitScribe.

Actually, I wonder if I can get work to buy me a CircuitScribe so that I can use it to do STEM work with some of the local schools and it's not just for me to play with, oh no...

Hmmm, I often look at tools and wonder what excuses I can make to myself to buy them....

I was very good. I experienced the lust and then walked out without touching it. (It helped that I wasn't in my home town and was travelling on foot/public transport, rather than with my car.)

LOL at ridiculous pink drill. Perhaps it would be useful for filing one's nails?

Years ago I bought a floral-handled hammer purple, not pink . DH has stolen it.

So I have stolen his Makita.

Maybe DH would like a pink drill for Valentine's. He likes to have one drill for drilling and another standing by as a screwdriver. Do you think that has enough power to turn a screw? I'm not sure.

My DMIL bought me a flowery tool set a couple of years ago. I think it was meant well, as she'd been surprised but impressed that I was capable of constructing Ikea furniture shortly beforehand. Not sure why I can't just use the tools that are already in the toolbox though.

I've got a cheapy flourescent green screwdriver not dissimilar to that - it gets into places that my drill can't because it's smaller.

We'll not get into the stupidity of the light that only comes on while the driver is turning though, not when you actually need it because you're upside down under a kitchen cabinet and can't for the life of you see where the screw is to dismantle it....

It's pretty. Why not? If I wanted a screwdriver I'd buy it over the non pink version. I like pink.

I wouldn't want them just because I'm a ladeeee though. I have other stuff in a regular tool kit.

The flowery / William Morris type kits you get in National Trust shops are very pretty. If they work I don't see what's wrong with that. I don't suppose they are any use for heavy duty diy but I wouldn't be doing that anyway.

Well I'm sorry but I'm just appalled at some of the ignorance and attitudes being displayed on this thread.

First off, we're talking about a screwdriver, not a drill. Pretty much the first thing you learn (in the great school of trial and error) is that you can't drive screws with a drill - too big, too heavy, too unwieldy, not precise enough control over speed and so on.

The colour - I'm not really a fan of pink, but I suppose it has the advantage that you could find it easily in a pile of black, dark grey and dark blue tools. Then again if it's meant for us ladeez then of course we would always keep it neatly packed away with all it's bits in its case, wouldn't we.

A valentines gift aimed at women? Well it wouldn't be my first choice but, to be honest, it would still be better than just about every one of the fucking valentines gifts I've ever actually received...

And there's nothing wrong with 3.6 volts. On the few occasions when I've risked a beating by sneaking my hands onto DP's 3.6v Bosch Professional, I've never found it to be lacking in power. Oh no. It's small but perfectly formed.

So for 'soft driving' indoors it probably wouldn't be too bad...

I like that the hand in the picture has polished nails. Just to make it clear that this is a laydeez tool and not a proper manly one. I'd probably use it for drilling my Lego friends pieces together as I struggle to get my little brain how Lego works.

I think they missed a trick though, they should have provided a set of drills in different colours. What if it didn't match my lipstick . I'll just have to stick with the big fuck off drill my Dad bought me and made sure I knew how to use. Black goes with everything dahhhlings.
