On the Valentine page on Lidl website

Is this:

  1. So cute - I luffs him, look what he gave me...
  2. A great step forward: at last the retail sector has realised that Power Tools are for Life, not just For Father's Day
  3. Oh, great, now women have to add DIY to the Having It All list of responsibilities
4.. Have they learned NOTHING from the Pink Bic debacle?
  1. It just doesn't have enough torque, and I wouldn't look at anything that doesn't have a percussion chuck...

OP, it's occurred to me I've never bought a Valentine's day gift in my life and had you not posted that link I wouldn't know the
" Lidl Valentine's Day page" existed.

Were you specifically looking for Valentine's day presents ? If so, it's hardly surprising you found something ridiculous.

Hazchem · 07/02/2015 04:08

See if it was a proper sized drill for drilling stuff I would be all over that. I love pink. It's just a shame it's so little. I need proper tough tools as I have overworked a couple of less powerful things i mean i wanted to saw off the metal and the bit said it was for metal)
Also if it was pink i could easily identify it when say my dad pinches stuff out of my tool kit.

Oh I'd like a purple staple gun that would rock.

I'm not sure about a glue gun I might get that in a blue/aqua/teal colour.

Magnetic1 · 07/02/2015 07:36

It's a screwdriver as pointed out. Women proving they know little about DIY! Grin I actually don't think coloured tools are a bad idea. Grey and black gets boring and makes it hard to find what you need.

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 07:41

Meh, it's a screwdriver, not a drill. Would be handy to have to put furniture together, rather than use a manual screwdriver. I'd be as happy to have a pink drill as a green, blue, yellow or purple one. A bit more fun than dull black/grey.

sassytheFIRST · 07/02/2015 07:51

I did buy a set of small tools - hammer, pliers, screwdriver, Stanley knife, tape - in a floral design once. But that's because Dh was a builder and I kept buying those things in a more normal colour way only for them to disappear to the site he was working on and never return.

8 years later and I still gave the flowery ones. Grin

FuckOffGroundhog · 07/02/2015 08:45

I'd be as happy to have a pink drill as a green, blue, yellow or purple one. A bit more fun than dull black/grey.

but notice they don't actually sell any of those colours. Just pink. Because chicks dig pink.

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 09:03

Purple Screwdriver

Blue Drill

Lime green selection

Yellow hammer

Maybe Aldi doesn't sell them. But then again it doesn't have infinite space.

FuckOffGroundhog · 07/02/2015 09:41

Well it would be weird if Aldi kept live birds. Maybe actually click your links before trying to one up people?

FuckOffGroundhog · 07/02/2015 09:42

Also, the purple screwdriver? Did you actually see what it was? No right?

FuckOffGroundhog · 07/02/2015 09:45

I actually find it funnny that considering the limitlessness of the internet, you still couldn't find it. I mean keep scouring I'm sure there are some..but it doesn't actually change what we are talking about.

AuntieStella · 07/02/2015 09:52

"but notice they don't actually sell any of those colours. Just pink. Because chicks dig pink."

I'm not sure that's right, because unless I was looking only at expired pages, Lidl are selling other colours of screwdriver by this manufacturer.

Is everything in the women's part of Valentine's section pink?

FloraFox · 07/02/2015 10:06

Hahaha, the first two are just pictures, not actually for sale and the third is a bird. A fucking bird!

FloraFox · 07/02/2015 10:06

sorry the fourth is a bird.

SardineQueen · 07/02/2015 10:16

I like the bird.

I'd prefer it if it were pink, though.

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 10:45

Yes, the fourth is a bird...it's a yellowhammer. It was a joke!

And the others were pictures to prove that there are plenty of tools that do exist in the colours I mentioned.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 07/02/2015 10:51

I'd prefer it if it were a kitten.

I love kittens.

And great big fuck off tools so that I can do all the DIY in the house. Especially if they are not in colours specifically restricted to "girlie" things in present day society, for those missing the point.....

SardineQueen · 07/02/2015 10:56

Nothing wrong with colourful things.

Everything wrong with having special tools which come in Pink for laydeez.

Why not lots of colours for both men and women to choose from?

Postchildrenpregranny · 07/02/2015 11:03

I have a dark pink laptop and a dark pink camera . They were cheaper than standard black/grey (?) which is why I bought them . I also have a pink filofax (yeh I know, dark ages...) and a pink phone cover as they are a lot easier to find in a big handbag .Also a lovely turquoise purse with an elephant and the Radley dog on it my DDs bought me for Christmas. I'm not at all 'girly' and never was . I just like colour . I think pink (or any other coloured) tools are fun and much easier to find /won't get 'borrowed' (but my drill is standard Black and Decker turquoise and my sander is red anyway)
But I wouldn't want power tools as a present .Like I wouldn't(generally) want domestic equipment. It's for the house, not me .

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 11:05

But that was my exact point Sardine. There's plenty of tools available in a huge range of colours, for men and women.

I can't see anywhere on the lidl link that specifies this screwdriver is for 'laydeez' only.

And Groundhog - not sure what you mean about the purple screwdriver. Did I see what it was? Yeah, a purple screwdriver shaped like a gun. And I want one now!

SardineQueen · 07/02/2015 11:08

You can't see anything in the link to indicate that device is being aimed at women and you are confident that they also stock a range of other colours which are displayed on different pages.

Right.

Here is the page it links from FYI.

Nope definitely not aimed at women at all. And mainstream stores often show men with powertools wearing nailvarnish. Pink powertools. Obviously.

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 11:13

You're putting words in my mouth. I didn't say they stock other colours! Just that other colours were, you know, available. I didn't say it wasn't 'aimed' at women, I said there was nothing that specified it was 'laydeez' only.

SardineQueen · 07/02/2015 11:19

Oh right.

So you think that item is clearly aimed at women (or as a gift for a woman), but that it doesn't actually have "this is for women only" written on it.

So where does that get us then?

DropYourSword · 07/02/2015 11:21

Is my opinion supposed to 'get us' anywhere?

FloraFox · 07/02/2015 11:23

It does help in a discussion if you actually have a point.

sanfairyanne · 07/02/2015 11:24

i like it. good valentines gift (hence the pink) for the unromantic (me)
