Because the girl groomed him rather than the other way around according to the judge.

I dont live in the UK so they'd have to get me extridited first. Anyway, if MI5 are reading this, I was only kidding

I despair that a person , you would assume is of reasonable intelligence and in a position of total legal power, comes out with such disgusting and damaging rubbish.
I expected an 80 year old male judge, not a woman you would expect to have a broader life experience, it makes me wonder if she was a defence lawyer for rapists previously.
DD is a high school teacher and has to deal with teenage crushes all the time, that man, plus any other teacher abusing their position and forming highly inappropriate ( a vast understatement) relationships with a child, is an utter disgrace and unsuitable to work with children.

Chandon · 15/01/2015 08:26

Infuriating!

Hope it gets overturned.

What was this judge on?!

Please don't condemn lawyers who defend rapists. If rapists could never access legal counsel, that would make applying our justice system impossible.

Toomanyexams · 15/01/2015 08:34
Shock Is there any opportunity for this to be reviewed? For the judge to be removed based on her own incompetency?

I have a friend who is a criminal defence barrister, representing paedophiles on low incomes. It doesn't mean she agrees with this judge.

BreakingDad77 · 15/01/2015 09:33

www.4bb.co.uk/index.php/our-people/ms-j-greenberg-q-c/ is this the same judge?

BreakingDad77 · 15/01/2015 09:35

Another ropey case? forourdaughters.co.uk/index.php/tag/joanna-greenberg-qc/

INickedAName · 15/01/2015 11:03

Saw this yesterday and was speechless, my 9 year old dd had more understanding of why it's wrong than the judge.

Just caught the back end of the man and woman debating sexism on This Morning, both have made me feel uncomfortable and angry.

INickedAName · 15/01/2015 11:03

Meant both stories, not both people in the debate.

Apparently they can't review the sentence because the offences aren't covered in the Act that allows the review.

Speechless, just speechless

What is the fucking POINT if slimy toads like this can just slither back into society with barely a slap on the wrist

Smartleatherbag · 15/01/2015 14:03

As someone who was abused by a teacher, this horrifys me. Poor girl.

Toomanyexams · 15/01/2015 14:16

So the case cannot be reviewed. Sad

Can the judge's position be reviewed? Her judgement, core to her job, is seriously questionable. Any chance of removing her?

Uphigh · 15/01/2015 14:26

If my husband had sex with anyone, let alone a 16 year old, in the week I miscarried I would regard that as an exacerbating factor not a mitigating one.

I suspect the judge identified with the professional more than the troubled girl, hence her being a woman didn't give her particular insight into the case.

I have been pretty disgusted by reactions of my friends, who consider themselves free thinking individuals, yet who defend men having sex with 15 year olds, such as in the Polanski case or that teacher who ran to France with a fifteen year old. I despair , I really do.

A girl in my year at school "dated" our geography teacher for 2ish years and eventually married him (at 18 years and a few days). They got divorced about a year later because he was an emotionally immature and stunted individual. Guess that's why he persued relationships with much younger girls.

I teach in a secondary school for boys with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. 95% have serious and genuine issues with boundaries/personal space due to abuse/neglect. Some are "trying it on" and some genuinely don't realise/have never been taught what are appropriate limits (one (extreme)example: they have married parents who live together, the father beats the mother regularly but their mother is a sex worker who has clients while the child is home. This teaches a child very confusing lessons about how you treat those you "love" and those you work with/want things from). It's our (the whole staff's) job to do what we can to change that; not be complicit in the abuse!!

Absolutely totally and utterly gross disgusting and wrong. . . .

This judge needs serious looking at, sadly, and in particular in relation to the Ched Evans the rapist thread I wasn't all that surprised that it was a female judge. Shocking how many women hold similar views

Hugely insulting to all men as well as being the most obvious bit of victim blaming I've seen in a while.

FFS I mean if he can't 'control' himself around a 15 year old what's he doing in the job???

And yes I would say the same if the genders were reversed.(A question that was raised elsewhere)

wheresthebeach · 15/01/2015 14:38

It just unbelievable. Shocking. Legalised rape. Great.

Housewherenibody, yes I know that. I was talking from the perspective of my friend who thought it was perfectly okay for a man to have sex with a 15 year old. I did tell him the details of that case which was a planned drugged rape. I also told him that it is not okay for adults to have sex (legally rape) with 15 year old girls because they are girls mot adult women and there is a big difference in knowledge and power between the two.
