Feminist Pub 15: The Bluestocking hangs up its, err, stocking and hopes for a chatty Christmas and a Feminist New Year

Festive greetings!

This is the 15th incarnation of the Pub and is meant as a place to drop by with random thoughts and meandering chats, on feminist or other related themes. Anything you want to mull over but not necessarily start a thread about. Alternatively, get some booze and snacks and hang out! Lurkers, newbies and oldbies welcome.

We have a pub goat, a feminist cannon for firing at crazy sexists and we cheer each other up when patriarchy grinds us down...

Merry Christmas, you lovely feminists. Xmas Grin

JeanneDeMontbaston · 25/12/2014 01:50

Merry Christmas, all. Smile

I'm sitting up, wrapping presents with the carols on. Lots of love to you all for tomorrow.

FibonacciSeries · 25/12/2014 02:23

Merry Christmas! I'm awake and PMS-ing. I'm sure it's the patriarchy's fault Xmas Wink

Dragonlette · 25/12/2014 07:27

Merry Christmas to you all. Grin

Dd2 (4yo) woke up at 7, climbed into our bed and went back to sleep Shock Apparently she's too tired to check if Santa has been and she'll do it in the morning Grin 15yo dd1 opened her stocking at midnight, approx 2 mins after Santa left it Grin

YonicSleighdriver · 25/12/2014 07:44

Merry Christmas everyone - snatching small hiatus in midst of chaos Wine

Artifexmumdi · 25/12/2014 12:38

Merry Christmas everyone!

EBearhug · 25/12/2014 14:24

Merry Christmas, one and all!

I am now pondering issues of geometry - how come there appears to be less space in the fridge, even though half of it's been cooked and eaten? How will I fit the uneaten bits back in? It is going to thwart my plans of living on leftovers at this rate.

EBearhug · 25/12/2014 14:41

I need to tell you about my transgender cracker joke:

Why did the bull wear a bell?

Because her horn did not work.

(Since when were bulls her? Is everything I learnt growing up on a farm all wrong?)

SunshineBossaNova · 25/12/2014 15:04

Merry Christmas all. I wish you a patriarchy free day. Xmas Grin

scallopsrgreat · 25/12/2014 16:58

Merry Xmas everyone! Hope you are all having a good day!

My MIL (bless her muchly) bought my youngest a dolls house. Cue both boys playing in harmony for about half an hour with the dolls and furniture. It was great! They loved it! A small feminist win.

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/12/2014 19:04

Hello! Back from MIL with full tummies and 3 days' worth of leftovers. And we have at least 5 types of chilli pastes and sauces so it will be fun. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/12/2014 19:06

DSs would be envious of doll houses. But no room for big things in the house, unfortunately.

kickassangel · 25/12/2014 21:23

When dd was 2 MIL bought her a proper old fashioned dolls house (the kind adults actually decorate and furnish) with China dolls.

Dd immediately got her toys lizards and raced them down the stairs. MIL was most out out that DD wasn't playing with it nicely.

Did I mention that DD was 2?

I'm listening to the whir of our new ice cream maker, with a cat curled up on my feet. Dd is playing a computer game and DH is having a nap. All is well.

FibonacciSeries · 25/12/2014 21:36

My brother and I (3 years apart) used to play together with all our toys: the trucks, the action men and my Barbie dolls. We never particularly discriminated by gender.

I've had a successful Christmas Day. I only married recently and have teenage DSC, so I'm still a bit of edge wanting them to accept me! It doesn't help that as a long term vegetarian I can't really cook the meals they like; DH is in charge of that.

Dragonlette · 25/12/2014 22:20

We've had a fabulous Christmas. Just us, dp, dds and me, no stress, no arguments. Dd1 has had a phone, but has also been wearing a "manly mustache" all day (stocking filler). Dd2 has had an overload of Frozen toys, plus Lego, mecchano and dinosaur toys that she's thrilled with.

I think dp has just proposed Confused Hmm Grin That's a bit of a surprise, we've been together 9 years, have a house and dd2 together, it's never really been a consideration. Not really a romantic proposal, no ring, talk of tax benefits and legal protections, etc. I said ok Grin

Congratulations Dragonlette!Wine

Dragonlette · 25/12/2014 22:33

Thanks EE. I'm a bit shocked tbh, I haven't really had time to process it.

YonicSleighdriver · 25/12/2014 22:48

Wine Dragonlette - yay!

Have had a lovely relaxed day with DH and DS2. Some really thoughtful presents (including my Malory). Walked the dogs on the beach and chilled right out.

Congrats Dragon!

FibonacciSeries · 26/12/2014 08:11

Congratulations, Dragonlette!!!
