109 women prosecuted for false rape claims in past 5 years

This made me so angry. The thousands of women that can't get justice for being raped due to 'lack of evidence' yet the CPS thinks it's ok to pursue these women for reporting their rape to the police. We all know how incredibly hard it is to report a rape and the facts speak for themselves, aprox 85,000 rapes a year, 5-15% are reported, of those reported rapes, only 6% get a conviction. This is a fucking travesty but it seems like it's easier to get a conviction for a false rape allegation than get a conviction for a devastating, life altering crime? Something is very wrong here...

Oh and last thing, false rape allegations are aprox 2% of all reported allegations, similar to other types of crime.

And I like the fact that people who are predisposed to thinking men who are accused of rape are innocent are AOK for juries, while people who are predisposed to thinking men accused of rape are guilty are not OK at all and must be removed. Despite the fact that statistically the second group are correct.

Anyhoo.

Given that only the most in-your-face cut and dried total definite there were 22 witnesses type rapes ever get to trial all of this is academic really isn't it.

I like how it's only feminists who aren't allowed to have opinions. Everyone else is, of course Grin

The pretence that everyone but feminists are impartial sensible types who always reserve judgement until all the facts are in is baffling. You have to wonder whether people who claim that, have ever had a conversation with anyone in the general public Grin People have opinions about everything!

Frankly, I make the assumption that if a case has got as far as being charged, then the man is guilty. Because the CPS is not exactly quick to charge in rape cases

have you got any sons, MEOD?

A false accusation of rape is a terrible thing for a man to go through with, it will follow him round for the rest of his life.Look ay the Bill Roach case. One of the women when she got to court admitted to not even knowing she had been raped.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 03/12/2014 19:35

Yeah, look at poor William Roach. No job, homeless, career in tatters..... oh no, hang on a sec.....

marnia68 · 03/12/2014 19:36

'Would you like the taxi driver who has been charged but not convicted to be the one to pick your wife or daughter up? Or would you rather they got a different taxi?

Would you feel comfortable knowing that the scoutmaster your son is on a trip with was only charged with raping his son but not convicted?'

..and you illustrate my point nicely.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 03/12/2014 19:36

btw? Given how hot the CPS seems to be on punishing women in these situations. What did his accuser get in terms of punishment after her high profile trial for perjury and perverting the course of justice?

Well would you, Narnia?

marnia68 · 03/12/2014 19:38

Puffin- so rich and famous people deserve what they get? Your post brings absolutely nothing to the debate.

Then answer my question. It's really simple, what punishment did she get after her trial?

I'm also interested in Narnia's response.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 03/12/2014 19:40

And, just in case you weren't aware, you were the one who mentioned him, not me.... maybe it's you bringing nothing to the discussion. Contrary to popular believe, this isn't a debating society.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 03/12/2014 19:41

*belief... don't type and eat at the same time!

marnia68 · 03/12/2014 19:41

'I don't have sons, but I do have a dh, a df, a db, and plenty of other men I care about.'

so you would happy for you dad (who was completely innocent) to be convicted , go to prison , be beaten up segregated and shunned for the rest of their lives , You wouldn't want to jurors to listen to his side of the story before making up their mind?

Marnia, RTFT. It's been made very clear that serving on a jury brings the associated responsibilities and those of us who have served or will serve accept those .

PuffinsAreFictitious · 03/12/2014 19:44

and......... swerve around the question again... Hmm

ArcheryAnnie · 03/12/2014 19:45

Men who are convicted of rape - who are jailed for rape, even - don't have their lives ruined, never mind the ones who are accused of it.

I don't buy this "mens' lives are ruined" thing.
