Why dress like this?

I feel very depressed that more and more female celebrities decide to dress like this. These celebrities, like it or not, are role models for many girls and I feel it sets a very scary tone for what young girls may aspire too.

I do believe everyone has freedom of choice and can wear what they want, but I think that more often than not, this type of outfit is done as a publicity stunt.

Am I being too harsh, or does anyone agree?

TSS I know what you mean. Every award ceremony it's not so much the quantity of flesh on display more the what the hell were you thinking of that gets to me.

The black dress looks cheap and nasty. The white one might be better if you saw ir full length. If it's long it might be ok.

Seven, that was Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant.

PacificWerewolf · 02/11/2014 21:53

They can wear whatever they like what boils my piss is that they are required to wear revealing stuff to get the column inches and to elevate their profile.

they are Tom Ford dresses, it was a fashion event \link{http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/fashion/news/from-miley-cyrus-bondage-outfit-to-rihannas-nipple-pasties-who-wore-what-at-the-amfar-inspiration-gala-9827988.html\that celebrated tom ford's collection} i dunno, women have tits, some women like to show them off

don't get the fuss really, one minute on these threads women can wear what they want, the next someone moans when they do

Psycobabble · 02/11/2014 21:55

the op says she finds it depressing!

PacificWerewolf · 02/11/2014 22:00

Well, those 2 dresses are not Tom's finest hour IMO.

But that aside, I am sure he has good legs and a fine backside - why are they not on show, eh?

because he is picking up an award so wears the usual black tie as it's a black tie event?

of course the designer will showcase the most eye catching, media compelling outfits to promote his range. would be mad not to.

am sure he doesn't expect ladies to wear the outfits day to day.

fashion is allowed to be outlandish, accept it and love it

PacificWerewolf · 02/11/2014 22:05

Yes, but fashion for women seems to mean baring rather more than for men, don't you think?

MamaMary · 02/11/2014 22:08

They look ridiculous, and, no, it wasn't ever so. Fashions have got more and more revealing for women. In my local town, women on a night out wear shorter skirts, higher heels and lower tops than when I was that age - basically more flesh on display.

Influence of porn.

I aspire to a YSL tux as my black tie 'dress' in my dreams

southeastastra · 02/11/2014 22:12

was it the slits album cover that featured them topless in 1970s?

is being feminist now mean covering up head to toe

Hakluyt · 02/11/2014 22:12

Oh shit, I'm going to have to post about a choice "not being a feminist choice just because a woman makes it" again aren't I?

southeastastra · 02/11/2014 22:13

myempire they are 'showcasing' his collection

AsAMan · 02/11/2014 22:16

Hak, yes to that.

My hairy legs are not a feminist statement, they are due to laziness.

southeastastra · 02/11/2014 22:19

but it's always been that way empire, that's how it works. designers used actresses/models/musicians to hawk their wares and that's how it works.

asaman they are wearing tom ford's dresses to promote themselves and tom ford. win win in my view. how that can 'boil anyones piss' what a lovely turn of phrase, is a bit silly imo.

FrauHelga · 02/11/2014 22:22

Just because it has always worked that way doesn't mean it should be challenged though, southeastastra.

However, men's fashion designers design similarly ridiculous and flesh revealing outfits for men. And the men on the catwalks wear them.
