Discussion with female friend re Ched

HenriettaTurkey · 26/10/2014 10:53

So I posted an article on fb, with a link to an article on Ched Evans and the myth of male sexuality.

With it I wrote 'it's very simple. If she's drunk and you have sex with her, it's rape. That's the law'.

Several friends responded positively, saying such things as 'if in doubt assume the answer's no', 'it would be easier to move on if he at least acknowledged his act' etc

Then a female friend came on and, through various posts said I was being ridiculous as this meant that no-one could ever have a drink and have sex again.

After banging my head against the wall I realised you lovely folk would be able to help me construct a coherent response that doesn't rely on my usual, possibly unhelpful, sarcasm.

Help!

Oh god, i was not agreeing hen is antisemetic! Just that her friend may have extreme opposing views because she is in a different (to use the analogy used elsewhere) "gang"

I'll just get my coat!!

Smash, its the name of a huffpo article m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/6030676

Why would you get mn in trouble sharing your personal opinion on whether rape due to feeling threatened would have been a different case to rape after alcohol? Hmm

HenriettaTurkey · 27/10/2014 10:15

Yup that's right, beyond! And as you'll see...I'm not one to comment on Gaza on fb; I just happen to have a different perspective to hers. In general, I don't comment on controversial topics on FB at all. Hence why I came on here for advice re: Ched - it's all a bit new to me!

Also, in the interests of full disclosure, my DH is from Jewish ancestry, albeit down the male line, so fairly sure I'm not antisemitic. HTH.

Any more red herrings need clarifying just let me know!

Because, Beyond, we are commenting about the Ched Evans case, and one of the men involved was found not guilty in a court of law.

Smash - the myth reference was simply the headline of the article I posted (huffington post: Ched Evans and the myth about male sexuality). Not my term.

Beyond - I don't think buffy was referring to you: don't panic!

Thats fine, im not on about him, they "had sex" before chedwyn the rapist even got there :)

BeyondPreparedForHell · 27/10/2014 10:22

X posts all over the place!

HenriettaTurkey · 27/10/2014 10:23

Smash, you're welcome. Tbh, your post does make me sound a little like one of those people who might have a tendency to share, for example, the Britain First Lynda Bellingham post.

I can assure you I am a world away!

Oops, I meant Heart. Sorry.

Well smash

Earlier on you said " I didn't comment on the Ched Evans case" when it was what everyone else was talking about and you felt quite comfortable commenting.

So you can just do that again, really Smile

I don't think MN will get in hot water if you give your opinion at all.

smashboxmashbox · 27/10/2014 10:26

I haven't commented on the specifics of the Ched Evans case at all. Or at least, I don't think I have?

Please can you point me to where I have and I shall ask mumsnet to remove those posts.

Ok smashbox, lets say i was raped by two men while i was drunk, one a friend and the other not. Assuming i even got to court, do you think it would go differently in court and in the media to how this case has gone, if i said i felt threatened by the presence of two 'built' men and naked, alone me.

Amethyst24 · 27/10/2014 10:32

That Huffpo blogger lost me when she couldn't spell Michael Buerk's name right. If you're going to base an entire article around something someone said, do a quick google of them first, mmmm?

(Sorry, WAY off topic.)

smashboxmashbox · 27/10/2014 10:32

So you're alleging assault then Beyond? Before even rape?

smashboxmashbox · 27/10/2014 10:33

"raped by two men when I was drunk" - one of the men in the case you are clearly trying to not very subtly reference was acquitted.

I'm not going to comment.

BeyondPreparedForHell · 27/10/2014 10:33

Where did i allege assault? Confused

BeyondPreparedForHell · 27/10/2014 10:35

Why are you so determined not to comment?

I had willing, amazing, fully consenual (albeit slightly tipsy) sex with a friend, then his mate turned up and i felt threatened by my vulnerable state. That non-libellous enough for you?
