not that being adult women would make an enormous amount of difference difference, but still. is the assistant head a woman or a man?

Dragonlette · 13/10/2014 18:19

Exactly. Angry Angry He's an arse, but I hadn't realised quite how much of a sexist and pervy twat he is.

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/10/2014 18:27

dragon You should go to the papers to say the school is full of pervs. Wink

I might well get in trouble for doing that, especially since the rest of the staff know that it's nothing to do with male teachers at all. I don't know how to deal with it actually, he's pretty much my boss, and I like my job mostly.

Well done on your book chapter Buffy. I'd love to write a book but I don't think it's likely to ever happen.

That's probably what we'll do, but he has his own office so doesn't mix with us plebs much any more (thank god)

Bifauxnen · 13/10/2014 19:50

Just to quickly interject on the 'all animals are he' theme... my duck was called 'he' when suffering from being eggbound by the vet. He's a good vet but I couldn't suppress a Hmm.

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 13/10/2014 20:20

Christ on a bike, the skirt comment from that deputy head, WTF?!

Heaven help us!

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/10/2014 20:28

I have achieved nothing workwise today, apart from regreingt that I've agreed to review a paper, and thinking that my PhD student is doomed.

Having a Wine now so may start feeling optimistic at some point. Hmm

DemisRoussos · 13/10/2014 21:57

I finally managed to read to the end of the recent Judith Butler thread today, that felt like an achievement Smile

I have a deadline to meet on Thurs so now seemed the perfect time to prioritise reading it (procrastinate, moi?) Grin

vezzie · 13/10/2014 22:18

Thankyou for the bee enlightenment. I realised as I was typing that I was probably making mistakes and should google but ... thought it would be nice to be corrected by knowledgable friends, a la the old days. sorry to take you for granted in this way

About the distracting the male teachers.... no words.

Glad I went to work today. Didn't feel as bad as I thought I might, was not super productive but did more than nothing and being out and moving and seeing people cheered me up.

thanks again to everyone who was so kind to me yesterday and this morning
Flowers

How are you feeling now Buffy?
How are things with DH?

VeryLittleGravitasIndeed · 14/10/2014 08:47

Cannot believe the skirt/male teachers thing. Can they not hear how that sounds? I agree that a complaint about the school evidently being full of pervs is in order...

Glad you're feeling better vezzie!

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2014 09:18

vezzie Glad you are feeling better. :)

I have a mini school rant - what it is with this obsession with coats? If a child is not cold she/he is not cold and does not need a coat. If a child runs about like a loon she/he is bound to get hot and does not want to keep her/his coat on. Is this controversial? Why a blanket rule on "you must wear your coat when outside"? I don't see them saying you must wear a hat and put on some suncream and bring a water bottle when the sun beats down on you in the sports field on sports day. Which would be sensible. Stupid rules. All wrong priorities. I hate people.

Zazzles007 · 14/10/2014 09:27

I'm with you LordC, I am hating people today as well, particularly the unhelpful person whose maternity leave role I am taking on. The role has a whole bunch of processes and systems in place, and she seems to be making sure that I have as little information as possible to do the job. Hmm

I have been in the job for 2 weeks. Is it too soon to go postal on her yet?

PetulaGordino · 14/10/2014 10:30

www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/shows/100_women_event_28oct14

tickets available to the bbc's 100 women event recording

i think it's that system where you get sent "tickets" but in order to get the real ones you have to queue up early and get a sticker etc. so a bit of a PITA for anyone who has commitments, but i thought it was worth sticking here anyway

AnnieLobeseder · 14/10/2014 10:32

Oh, how annoying I'll be away, Petula, I'd have like to go to that.

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 14/10/2014 11:04

Glad you're feeling better vezzie.

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2014 18:25

Got a bit sucked into the Amal Alamuddin thread. Grin

But you know, I've been married many years (for various reasons Grin) but I still can't say "husband" or "mother-in-law" or hear "wife" or "daughter-in-law" without feeling slightly queasy. The other day at a party at my MIL the occasion arose that I had to tell someone who I was in relation to MIL and I couldn't say it.

Bring on the civil partnership!

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2014 18:29

On the plus side I have almost learned the first bit of my Bach's Partita #2. :) Yay!

OublietteBravo · 14/10/2014 19:24

Feeling stressed! This evening has involved 2 school pick-ups, a drop-off at football, back to school for parents evening, a collection from football and (finally) home. All in awful traffic due to the shit - really what were they thinking new roundabout layout and one of the main roads being closed for re-surfacing.

Also, we're supposed to be going on holiday next week and still haven't booked anything. I almost booked Butlins last night. But I've moved since I set up my account with them and I couldn't change my address without changing my title. So whilst it used to be OK to select 'Dr' as your title, this is no longer the case. Since my billing details have to match my bank details this means I can't book (and neither can DH for the same reason).

I'm so pissed off at the only options being Miss/Mrs/Ms that I will be avoiding them totally from now on.

Anyone got any suggestions for next week? Criteria are:
Suitable for an 8 year old and a 10 year old - preferably with a swimming pool;
In the UK, but with reasonable access to an airport (DH might have to go to Cork one day next week for work despite having had the week booked off as holiday since June;
Not Center Parcs;
£500 or less for Mon-Fri;
Able to accept 'Dr' as a title when making a booking!

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2014 19:35

Oh oubliette! I booked something almost as you described except the airport bit. Shall I pm you?

OublietteBravo · 14/10/2014 19:51

Yes please LordCopper (is it in Wales? There is an option there which would be perfect except for the airport). I'm kind of at the point that given DH has had next week booked off as holiday for ages that it is their (his company) job to get him to where he needs to be. However, if he can't get there and back in a day it will rather eat into our time.

(Currently hiding in my bedroom and letting DH deal with the shouty, tired children who are winding each other up when the are supposed to be doing their homework).

Fortunately I have Brew - so feeling a bit calmer...

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2014 19:55

Have pm you!

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 14/10/2014 19:56

The Welsh place is supposed to be good. Not sure of airport - cab to Cardiff? Or maybe Brum is easier?
