...sat actions from a table of four men discussing paying for sex. I couldn't believe my ears at first, wasn't really listening and then it became clear.
Finished with, "the only time I paid for It is the day I got married".

He's really upset about the existence of this forum, isn't he?

PetulaGordino · 16/09/2014 22:37

he's pretty upset about like-minded women agreeing with each other full stop

When women agree about men's appalling behaviour they know we can get something done about it. It's scary for them. We are asking them to be responsible for their behaviour i.e. not rape women (I know, we are just so unreasonable because obviously it's those deceitful women that just make men rape them).

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 16/09/2014 22:46

I'm sure glovender is a very capable man in his chosen professional field in life. Especially if it involves feeling superior about things, and generally belittling anyone he possibly can.

Not so with women though. Pretty good at joining forums to tell women they're all adolescent .... ooh "football..."

PetulaGordino · 16/09/2014 22:47

the only people who are going for one-upmanship are posters like glovender. everyone else was having a discussion about why boasting about prostitution public transport is intimidating

scallopsrgreat · 16/09/2014 22:47

We are out for one-up a ship. We didn't barge on a thread and interrupt a discussion going on and make ad hominem attacks against feminists.

Yeah we really are the ones going for one-upmanship Confused.

I'm with Buffy. I think you're drunk. You weren't making much sense before but now you're just talking drivel.

scallopsrgreat · 16/09/2014 22:48

One-up a ship?? Clearly that was supposed to say one-upmanship. The iPad has had one too many!

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 16/09/2014 22:49

As has glovender, scallops.

YY I read an article recently about the huge murder numbers and that the authorities had been failing to act etc

same old story.

I was talking about "missing white girl" syndrome to DH as well yest and saying how the media are so ready to assign different "value" to different people even children based on a variety of factors it's appalling. And of course the authorities too, poor, not so educated, non white, in the care system etc etc - all over the world it's the same old with some people mattering and others not.

PuffinsAreFicticious · 18/09/2014 07:07

When, are you on Twitter? The Invisible Man project is now looking at reviews posted on Canadian 'review' websites and there are some really telling things said about First Nations women.

Thecatisatwat · 18/09/2014 12:24

Vivacia, I really feel for you, I would have been so angry. I think in your position I'd have googled divorce lawyers (if you have a smartphone or laptop) and noted down their contact details on a bit of paper. When either you or the men left the train I'd have handed it to the man talking about his wife with a quiet comment somewhere along the lines of 'A present for your wife, for when she realises the sort of dickhead she's married'.

When I was younger I didn't have the nerve to challenge these things but now I have a daughter I know I have to for her sake.

As an aside, Dh was on a train when roughly the same thing happened and he said he was shocked by how the men were talking. His technique was to stare really hard at the one doing most of the talking and they rapidly changed the subject. Sadly I don't think that would work for a woman. It's profoundly depressing that it takes another man's disapproval for some men to censor their misogynistic behaviour.

You know, I think that it did work the other day though. I was just looking, one eyebrow raised and he faltered and changed the subject. My heart was pumping like mad though. The one in the group staring at me, who hardly spoke for the hour, was probably the most intimidating though.
