This might not go down well, but I cannot accept the campaign to ban Page 3. Here's why:

There is nothing wrong with the naked female body. A woman posing with her breasts on show is not lewd nor is it harmful to children.

Hypocrisy - Page 3 is no different to male models posing shirtless in women's magazines.

Prudishness - People who claim that newspapers should be banned from showing topless women are no different to the Victorians or to people in conservative parts of the world who don't allow women to show bare legs. It's the same principle.

Market mechanisms - if there is a demand for something and a consenting adult willing to supply it, then who is the government to get in the way?

Freedom of choice - if you don't like it, don't buy the Sun!

Ill go topless curlew in fact entirely naked. That should put a fair few of them off sex. And their dinners.

Op please explain why in this land of free so many women are still sexually assaulted? Don't just say it's worse in the Middle East, we know that. Answer the question.
I don't agree with women being coerced into modesty or pressure on women to look constantly sexually appealing and available. Nobody is saying if we don't have page 3 we should all also start wearing niqab. That's not the choice here. There is a middle ground that means women being free!

No, it's not just about men. It's about women. And us being safe. Just look at the reality. The stricter a society on female nudity and sexuality, the more violent and sexually aggressive the men are. Just think about it! How can anyone deny this reality!

i personally dont think the page 3 thing is a big issue - why not? because the fact is most kids dont read newspapers(can you call the sun a newspaper?) and most of the poses etc. really arent that bad, IMO they try to look like girl-next-door types. Yes woman may see the images but yes we know what a pair of tits looks like. But once you get past page 3 and get to the music pages you see someone like rihanna/madonna/miley (pick any of the other depressing singers) parading about like a ditry stripper grinding on some backing singers crotch - which IMO is far worse than page 3.

For me the music industry is 1000 times worse the the sun for porn - kids watch Music TV all the time - its on TV 24 hrs a day and on one seems to care about these soft porn vidoes playing away but hell mend you if you see a pair of tits in a paper...

Can i point out Beth that sexual arousal from visual stimuli causes the same amount of brain activity in both genders? Men are more vocal about the level of arousal experienced but the actual response is equal.

[FWIW I had a week in Tunisia some years ago and I wandered about quite freely wearing shorts and vest tops and was not harassed once. Perhaps I am physically repulsive, or something.]
