I support Page 3, who's with me?

This might not go down well, but I cannot accept the campaign to ban Page 3. Here's why:

There is nothing wrong with the naked female body. A woman posing with her breasts on show is not lewd nor is it harmful to children.

Hypocrisy - Page 3 is no different to male models posing shirtless in women's magazines.

Prudishness - People who claim that newspapers should be banned from showing topless women are no different to the Victorians or to people in conservative parts of the world who don't allow women to show bare legs. It's the same principle.

Market mechanisms - if there is a demand for something and a consenting adult willing to supply it, then who is the government to get in the way?

Freedom of choice - if you don't like it, don't buy the Sun!

Do you have an opinion on the OP, then SM?

What read to you as hectoring, read to me as a person with a passionate view refusing to dilute her beliefs.

Fact is Dittany (and SGM and Sakura) are well remembered, well thought of, people are fond of them.

You don't like that, well, whatevs, words on a screen innit.

Their words on a screen changed people's lives though. Can you claim that?

It's sad in the 21c the newspapers carry tits oot pics of women.fur no reason than titillation

Perhaps a slight deviation, but I'll say it anyway. Pre DCs I was slim with big norks. Every day I got comments, nudges and people discussing y body as if it wasn't real attached to a human being. Like I wasn't even there. As if they were looking the pg3 pictures.
I was 14 and in school uniform when it first started, by the time I was going to nightclubs men and sometimes women would discuss my norks (in particular). I believe that is because shit like pg3 made it ok to do so- I disagree that pg3 is an innocent bit of fun, it should be fucked off ASAP.

Like the last couple of PPs I have found the witty and intelligent rebuttals in this thread heartwarming. MumInScotland and K8 I luff you both.

Guess part of the arguments here would fall into that but not all.
It would be useful for me at least to pick apart the argument to understand rhetoric better but I don't think that is a good idea.
