Petition to stop PAGE 3!

Let's put a stop to the outdated and damaging practice of featuring topless women on page three of The Sun.

Women continue to struggle for equality socially and professionally, and sex crimes are at an all time high. 'Page 3' isn't directly responsible for this, but it certainly doesn't help. As Lucy Holmes (Cosmopolitan magazine) says, "If you show a naked, available woman in a family newspaper, it doesn't say, 'Women should be respected.'"

I have a petition that is slightly different, although is 100% behind the wishes of NoMorePage3.

I posted it in the petitions thread. Appealing to Lego to advertise with anyone other than the Sun. Well, not Playboy for example. How about Mumsnet, or all the local papers?

I've signed the no more page 3 petition- just trying to persuade my OH that he should too!

Page 3 has become so 'normal' in our society that I suspect many people wouldn't even class it as pornography.

I don't want to raise kids in a society where the objectification of women is considered to be some kind of national institution.

While I wholly agree with banning page 3 and I remember campaigning 20 years ago against it in a very high profile campaign with Clare Short MP, I can assure you the male dominated and very powerful press owners will never let you succeed. But good luck.

I started a thread here yesterday that raises the much more serious and insidious use of the female anatomy in mainstream films being shown with 15 certificates. The new Danny Boyle film (he's a national treasure allegedly) called Trance. shows a salacious full frontal nude close-up shot of the leading actress's shaven vagina. That is far more degrading for women than page 3, but my thread was removed for daring to use the word vagina (I assume?) So who is colluding to stop free speech on this forum and why don't they want a discussion on this serious issue of the very male film industry grooming teenagers to get a taste for pornography? Some women just don't want to be confronted with nasty truths and want to bury them.

Thankfully my local MP and a very senior government advisor have taken my concerns seriously and are supporting me in bringing this issue to parliament to discuss.

If you feel the same then contact your own MP, because if you don't the floodgates will open and like page 3 it will become normal and acceptable. If people had protested as soon as page 3 appeared, it would have been banned, but some women at that time were brainwashed (by men of course) into believing they were being liberated.
