Who is part of the patriarchy?

When we use the term patriarchy, do you think that the men you know are part of the patriarchy? And if no, then who is part of the patriarchy?

Again, you are making statements rather than discussing!

ShirtyKnot · 01/10/2012 10:42

What I would like to know is that if ALL men are the enemy, then what can be done?

KoPo · 01/10/2012 10:43

So its just the reinforcing that we all do then. OK I will leave it there.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 01/10/2012 10:46

Or, what mini said.

Shirty. Yep, all men are the enemy. Trust none of them. Not even your own children.

MiniTheMinx · 01/10/2012 10:51

If the oppression of women is rooted in sex class difference it sets up a sex class binary which can never be overcome unless we all metamorphosise into
a third sex class where there are no binary differences.

Trills · 01/10/2012 10:54

I disagree with your definition/explanation of "the patriarchy".

I think LRD and Kritiq wrote very well earlier in the thread.

I agree with Cuervo that you are just making statements about "how things are" (which many people, including feminists, might disagree with) and making no attempt to engage in discussion.

getmorenappies · 01/10/2012 12:29

I'm just wondering if I being a man, and thus 'the enemy' , should give my dd up for adoption to spare her my oppressive indoctrination ?

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 01/10/2012 12:51

Shirty what we need to do is get rid of patriarchy. That is the only solution

OP posts:
EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 01/10/2012 12:52

And if you think men arent part of the patriarchy, who is part of it?

OP posts:
ShirtyKnot · 01/10/2012 12:53

How do you want to see that achieved?

ShirtyKnot · 01/10/2012 12:53

I'm not sure if the second question is posed to me or not, but I never said that men aren't part of the patriarchy.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 01/10/2012 12:56

Eats, no one has said that men aren't part iof the patriarchy. We have said that, because its a social construct, we all are.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 01/10/2012 13:01

No we are not all part of the patriarchy. How do you think women are part of the patriarchy? I am genuinely puzzled that you think that

The patriarchy is a system whereby men as a class oppress women as a class. It is thus very very clear that all men are part of the patriarchy and all women are oppressed by the patriarchy.

OP posts:
ShirtyKnot · 01/10/2012 13:05

Can you please answer my question about how you propose the patriarchy is smashed please?

Everyone is part of the patriarchy, willingly or not.

Oh.

This isn't helpful Eats, just re-posting the same thing over and over again. Confused

Trills · 01/10/2012 13:07

No it isn't.

HTH

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 01/10/2012 13:09

And I'm genuinely puzzled as to how you can beligerently ignore all attempts to explain it to you.

Society is a patriarchy.
We all live in it.
Not everyone strives to uphold it, not even all men.
Not all men benefit from it.
Not all women are upset about it.
Men are not the enemy.
Not all men are potential rapists.

Himalaya · 01/10/2012 13:11

Is there any point in this?

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 01/10/2012 13:13

So blame who is part of the patriarchy?

OP posts:
BlameItOnTheCuervo · 01/10/2012 13:14

It is very clear that you don't want a discussion. You are right and even longer serving, better read feminist bloggers and writers are wrong. Your threads are goading at best, trolling at worst. Posting a statement c+pd from radfem 4 dummies does not. Constitute an argument.

ShirtyKnot · 01/10/2012 13:14

How should the patriarchy be smashed please?
