Talking about this on the Relationships board. Does anyone remember this woman from the 60's/70's who set up an early(?) refuge? Are her work and writings still valid today, or discredited at all, anyone have any knowledge? I may not be spelling correctly.

Have you tried discussing it somewhere else, Sigmund? Did nobody agree with you there ?

SigmundFraude · 11/04/2012 23:52

Where did I say I admired them?

AnyFucker · 11/04/2012 23:53

the answers to your question are on that thread, sigmund

SinicalSanta · 11/04/2012 23:53

Disuss what stuff? How feminists will destroy the family? That's just a bonkers view

SigmundFraude · 11/04/2012 23:53

Another feminist forum do you mean?

SigmundFraude · 11/04/2012 23:54

I was asking You for an answer directly AF.

SinicalSanta · 11/04/2012 23:56

By their fruits ye shall know them. That's the Bible
Worth reflecting on, in these puzzling times

sunshineandbooks · 11/04/2012 23:56

I think most women are quite committed to the family despite domestic violence, oppression and sexist behaviour from their male partners. If the family really would be destroyed if feminism eradicated these things then clearly it was a rubbish institution to start with. If you don't think that, why would you see feminism as a threat? Stupid argument!

AnyFucker · 11/04/2012 23:56

Sigmund, this isn't a "Feminist Forum" as MNHQ are always telling us.

You are free to discuss what you like.

But you are in the wrong place if you want people to take you seriously. You sometimes get a bit of a following in AIBU.

sunshineandbooks · 11/04/2012 23:57

And no way is domestic violence by women just as prevalent as that by men - even allowing for under-reporting. The only studies that suggest that have been ripped apart by peer review.

Nyac · 11/04/2012 23:57

I said for ages that Mumsnet needed an anti-feminism section e.g. for people who think that feminism is going to destroy the family, but none of the people who hold those views ever want to ask for one. They prefer sticking it out here for some reason.

In fact, I've never understood why the "women do it as much as men" argument is even relevant. Even if they did (and they don't) what difference would it make unless you are trying to use it as an excuse for saying violence in relationships is ok.

Nyac · 12/04/2012 00:01

They could all call themselves feminists too, just because they say they are.

It would be fun. We could visit with biscuits.

sunshineandbooks · 12/04/2012 00:01

What would we call it?

FWR Haterz?

MRAtastic?

Gone Too Far (GTF like AIBU? Acronyms always popular of course).

I'd love for mumsnet to have an "anti-feminist" section. Trouble is, half the poor loves think they're feminists anyway, but prefer telling the rest of us we're doing it wrong

Funnily enough, re the "feminism will destroy the family" quote. I'd actually argue feminism strengthens family units, of the healthy kind. Why would anyone want to force someone to stay in an unhappy or abusive relationship?

I'd prefer something that could be acronymed to WTAF. Can that be arranged?

TrophyEyes · 12/04/2012 00:11

Noooo, nyac. Don't call her back. Please?

Hey, I don't even have a problem with feminism 'destroying the family.' What feminism should be trying to destroy is the type of 'family' that consists of a male owner of women and children, or at least destroying the idea of it as the type of family to aspire to. Feminism is, at least in part about remaking the idea of 'family'.

Quick, can we get some sensible discussion in? Instead of having to revert back to the "waaaaah, feminists are destroying everything" discussion...
