Erin Pizzey's work with Refuges

Talking about this on the Relationships board. Does anyone remember this woman from the 60's/70's who set up an early(?) refuge? Are her work and writings still valid today, or discredited at all, anyone have any knowledge? I may not be spelling correctly.

Domestic violence is overwhelmingly committed by men - it is a male crime against women and girls. That doesn't mean that no women are violent, it just means that ignoring the gendered nature of DV will make it impossible to eradicate.

Pizzey is a victim blamer who says that women are responsible for the violence committed against them. She also hates feminists, so it's weird that you'd actually want her to be called a feminist. Do you think she'd thank you for claiming the label, when she's disavowed it.

Of course anti-feminists want people like Pizzey to be called a feminist, if feminism means nothing or means being anti-women then it can achieve nothing and will never defeat male power.

Really? Only in the sense that it's self defence, or meaningless. The thread you were on earlier, the one where a woman hit her bloke. Admittedly, he was a twat, but her violence towards him was largely ignored. All she got was advice saying what a wanker he was. Double standards central. Really poor.

I didn't post on it because I didn't feel it appropriate given the kicking I got last time I voiced a dissenting view.

But clearly you don't if you think that a feminism is simply someone who says they're one.

This section is called feminism/women's rights. I'm a woman and I have rights. It is not simply feminism.

Virtually every post on that thread said that she was wrong to hit him. Do you think he was right to goad and torment a heavily pg woman ? Who do you think might have a physical advantage there ? Does that give you a clue to the idea behind violence against women being a gendered problem at all ?

Does it occur to you that the next step in that disordered relationship will be that he starts knocking her to the floor and saying "you started it". Who do you think "started it" ?

Also if you think that feminism is going to destroy the family Sigmund, why are you so keen on making sure that people who you admire like Erin Pizzey and Wendy McElroy are known as feminists. Why would you want them in the family destroying gang? It's puzzling.
