Seen this appeal from Refuge on their facebook page:

"Have you started to buy your Christmas presents yet? Please help to make sure that every woman and child in our refuges gets at least one present this year by supporting our Christmas gift list appeal: www.johnlewisgiftlist.com/, list number 478985. Gifts start from just £1.50 so please give what you can to help bring some happiness to women and children escaping domestic violence this Christmas. Thank you."

What a great idea.

I would like to take credit for it but it was my sister's suggestion when I posted it on my facebook Blush

Mouseface · 10/11/2011 20:17

I bought some gifts on there today. I have been in a Women's Refuge so know just how very, very awful Christmas can be when your world has been turned upside down and inside out.

I know that Refuge will make a difference to those who need it Smile

I have bought some items and shared the link on FB. Thank you for highlighting this :).

Greenknowe · 11/11/2011 18:26

A fantastic idea! I got all nostalgic choosing favourite toys from my childhood to donate. Have drummed up support on facebook too!

Portofino · 11/11/2011 18:33

bumping so I can look later....

MooncupGoddess · 11/11/2011 21:10

Such a good idea. I've always wanted to buy a lightsabre!

Lilyloo · 11/11/2011 21:14

Lovely thread Smile

SweetTheSting · 11/11/2011 22:13

I think it's a great idea.

On the other thread that was linked, some people said they'd prefer to give second-hand stuff. That's great too if it's nice but you know what, I like that some kid will open a present thinking that was chosen for him/her. It's not just something a person is trying to get rid of, but something new that's just for him/her.

sospanfach · 15/11/2011 12:01

bump. Is there no chance of moving this link to an even more widely viewed page?

AlwaysWild · 15/11/2011 12:34

I did ask for that at the time and I agree it should be more prominent. There is another thread on the charities notice board that got moved there from aibu but I didn't even know that board existed until then

Done.

I have reported and requested that it go in Active (I know I'm not the first).

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 18/11/2011 12:29

Done and bumping the thread. Also shared in FB.

SharonGless · 19/11/2011 17:25

Bump have donated and put on fb

Greenknowe · 21/11/2011 17:49

Just seen on Refuge's facebook page that over 500 presents have been bought so far! Let's keep the momentum up!

ChristinedePizanne · 21/11/2011 18:19

Bumping some more :)

BornToFolk · 21/11/2011 18:24

Thank you for the reminder. I meant to do this and never got to it before.

RickGhastley · 21/11/2011 18:26

What a wonderful idea, will donate and bump some more!

caramelwaffle · 21/11/2011 20:14

Lovely idea.

Greenknowe · 22/11/2011 21:21

Another bump! The list is open until the 7th of December....

Memoo · 24/11/2011 22:12

That link doesn't seem to take me to their gift list?! What am I doing wrong?

Get0rf · 24/11/2011 22:17

Oh how wonderful.

Please can this go at the top of active convos? This is the first time I have seen this thread (like most people I imagine, I just go into active convos as opposed to the topics).

I am going to donate - this is a brilliant and important idea. How many times do we see on MN people recommending that women in trouble contact Refuge/Womens Aid etc.

Get0rf · 25/11/2011 13:28

Oh apols for posting my absurd Hollister story twice Blush. MN went offline as it posted it the first time and I assumed my first post was lost.

It's not be being senile, obviously (don't tell me daughter Grin).

Yes fellatio I am like this at 33. Plus, when I said that in Hollister it was 2 christmases ago, so was just 31. I am obviously an old fart soul.
