Hello,

I just reported a thread started by 'Dittony' which had a title attacking another poster and provided a link to a blog post.

It looked like a few others had reported it too as they had posted on it.

However in A/C there is another thread with the same title, which when you click on it takes you to a page saying 'error: thread deleted at OP's request'.

The OP however would appear to be someone who posted on the first thread, but not the same person who started it.

So can anyone please clarify what happened here...assuming the second thread was not posted by the same person as the first, (which has now gone) under a namechange?

(really hope not!)

OP posts:

By teeniest, tiniest bit thick, we mean very thick... Grin

Sakura, if you're reading, also hope you're ok. I genuinely don't want to see any of the genuine voices on this board silenced.

Shock BAD SGM!

Actually, I'm disappointed I missed it completely. :(

theothersparticus · 15/09/2011 09:43

StewieGriffinsMom If it's the one I'm thinking of, I was so dissapointed that got deleted, I'd read patiently through to page 12 this morning and it got deleted just as I turned to the last page Sad

I lurked for ages watching the arguments instructive comments from posters like Dittany and Sakura I'd be sad to see those, and other, strong voices silenced.

ChristinedePizan · 15/09/2011 09:43

I missed all of this but I agree that Something Must Be Done. This is internet stalking :(

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 15/09/2011 09:46

Was that the male/female brain one? It was a goody.

That they do, SGM. Not sure how it works on anonymous forums, mind

LRDTheFeministDragon · 15/09/2011 09:56

Has HQ said anything, on deleted threads for example, about what they're going to do? Or are they assuming this is one isolated troll with a grudge? (Seems very unlikely, doesn't it?)

solidgoldbrass · 15/09/2011 10:01

Sympathies to Dittany and Sakura: I've had issues with internet stalkers in the past and it is horrible.

SardineQueen · 15/09/2011 10:04

Just seen this, how awful.

I agree it would be a terrible shame if people like Sakura and Dittany stop posting - reading Dittany's posts on a thread ages ago was a revelation - here was someone expressing the feelings that I had had, but never been able to pinpoint! It was wonderful.

However I have to say that if I were Dittany or Sakura I don't know that I'd be sticking around. As much as I hope they will (please stay!).

I don't know what to say really. MN is the only talk board I've ever been involved in and the only feminist thing I've been involved in and I've been genuinely surprised and shocked at the trolling, targeting, other vindictive websites and all the rest of it. I mean for gods sake it's just us lot having a natter - I find it mind-boggling that anyone gets so upset about it/cares so much.

MNHQ say just report when we think there's trolling is that right?

Blackduck · 15/09/2011 10:05

why was the female/male brain one deleted?

ChristinedePizan · 15/09/2011 10:06

That deleted thread is really odd. Did the site get hacked or something? It sounds like it might have been

LRDTheFeministDragon · 15/09/2011 10:09

SQ - MNHQ say to report when people break talk guidelines, but, HelenMumsnet said on the SN thread in site stuff that if we felt there was something worrying about a poster or if we thought they kept coming up with dodgy comments, we could report and explain we knew it wasn't breaking guidelines, but we were concerned for x,y,z reasons.

I've reported some of the nastier stuff about rape in this context. IMO joking about rape and making sexist comments should be blacklisted in talk guidelines just as much as racist or disablist comments, although sadly at the moment they seem to be considered much more acceptable.

It seems pretty obvious that trolls feel welcome in this section and assume their views cannot be challenged, and this is why they have felt able to attack Dittany and Sakura.

ShirleyKnotFrotGrot · 15/09/2011 10:16

Awful.

An MRA popped up on AIBU earlier this week and he is so monumentally stupid that within 6 or 7 clicks I had his fucking telephone number.

Now, I'm not suggesting for a moment that I would ever DO anything with that sort of information but um, I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make here - something to do with how incredibly smug and self satisfied and...dense these fuckers are.

So sorry you're having such a dreadful time over here - I love this board (and lurk a lot) and it would be totally shit to lose this valuable resource.

MNHQ - please do something about this shit.

AyeBelieveInTheHumanityOfMen · 15/09/2011 10:19

I listened to an Adam & Joe podcast this morning on my way to work. They were discussing people writing in to say they didn't like their show and were incredulous that anyone would use their time to listen to something they didn't like and then write to them about it. It made me think of all the dull fuckers who do the same on here.

The vicious trolls are a different kettle of fish. Or the handful of them that repeatedly target posters on here. I really hope that MNHQ are brave about handling this issue and don't go down the cowardly route of deciding that this section is too much effort. We are not the ones causing trouble. Bowing to the dregs of the Patriarchy would make a mockery of the whole site.

Dittany and Sakura - I am so sorry they are doing this to you.

They're not in an impossible position. They could delete trolling posts. They're not doing that atm.

Not impossible, Bob. Not impossible at all, and I'm starting to think that if anyone posts anything "sinister" in the FS they should be banned.

Wah wah wah free speech boohoo! If you want free speech go somewhere else. Grin

Sinister as defined by me.

You might be "a geek" Bob, that doesn't mean that you know everything there is to know about how to track down losers trolls.

Who's to say what the latest technology has going for it?

Who's to say whether I know exactly who YOU are, just for example!

It's a rum old game and no mistake.

I expect MNHQ are delighted to have your support Smile

I got deleted for saying someone was 'scraping the barrel' on another thread.

I'll probably stick to misogynistic trolling in future, just to be on the safe side.
