when you engage with the trolls

. . . is it a personal thing (actually engaging emotionally) or are you communicating with a wider, more silent audience or are there other motivations?

I can't work out why more people don't ignore them, but every now and then the exchanges are unintentionally funny or interesting - although mostly it gets very dull very quickly. Wondering what's in it for them too.

why would any one want a hide poster button?wouldn't you rather challenge and agitate? just like everyone else does.i mean bless people post innocuous stuff like what wee bubba ate at nans for tea-and all mn pile in.no hiding that

most salient post was helenMNHQ. Having said that, Mumsnet is an open forum, which welcomes discussion from those with a variety of opinions and perspective - and the Feminism section of Mumsnet is no exception to that. It is not a closed forum. Nor is a forum in which only feminists can post. If you'd like to post somewhere like that, that's fine - but Mumsnet's not the place

and troll is overused on feminist board, its practically code for i disagree

LeBOF · 05/09/2011 22:21

It seems to be running out of steam anyway, Len. But I'll keep my eyes peeled for news in Site Stuff.

scottishmummy · 05/09/2011 22:21

i knew a wummin in dumbarton,actually ran-tan.she had moustache
considered v priddy she was

edd1337 · 05/09/2011 22:22

Exactly scottishmummy. If this is trolling, then they've seen nothing yet. There's far worse parts of the Internet with.... lets just say downright evil trolls who are dangerously cunning and can find out who you are and where you live

Sound like something out of a horror movie? It's real alright

MrsReasonable · 05/09/2011 22:23

A 'hide poster' button would be a nightmare - posters would hide anyone who didn't agree with or insulted them, and eventually threads would have a couple of different conversations going on between groups, each unaware that the others are also talking. Sounds very confusing for lurkers or new visitors.

hide poster is over personalising words on a screen
and bit juvenile
how the hell would you keep track of the names to hide
list?spreadsheet?

AnyFucker · 05/09/2011 22:35

edd do you mean to post in such a sinister manner ?

you keep doing it

could you stop please ?

edd1337 · 05/09/2011 22:37

im not posting in a sinister manner, i'm just comparing the so called "trolls" here on MN to real trolls that i've seen on the internet

MrsReasonable · 05/09/2011 22:37

I don't see anything wrong with edd's post, AnyF; he's right. There are places on the internet where their idea of trolling is to post child pornography - the 'trolls' here are small-fry.

IIRC, edd's banned post was a fake admission and acceptance of his male privilege - tasteless, but not the outright attack and bragging that some posters seem to think.

edd1337 · 05/09/2011 22:43

long drawn out sigh

You never even read the post or my attempt at satire. I'm simply comparing the trolls of MN and how they are mere grains of sand compared to a rock that is a real troll

I saw the post..it was badly mistimed, as is this latest one

do you make a habit of freaking women out on t'internet edd ?

edd1337 · 05/09/2011 22:46

I don't make a habit of it since you ask. I'm unaware you are freaked out by it. It's not my intention though

MrsReasonable · 05/09/2011 22:47

Aww, thanks, dittany Smile
