To all those who say on threads 'I am too scared to go into feminism' - this topic isn't scary!

I think it's a shame when I see threads where the OP says 'I am too scared to put this in feminism' or something.

I am certainly not knowledgeable about feminist theory, but have never felt that my opinion on this thread wasn't wanted or I was vilified for stating what I believed.

I think this topic is pretty inclusive - yes some people are forthright with their opinions, but nobody's word is god, and I would hate to think that mumsnetters were put off contributing to threads in this topic because they mistakenly think the posters on here are viragos. Grin

No, but can't you see that being met with such aggression would put a newcomer off posting again?

iMemoo - I remember your thread. My reading of it was it started a huge debate about what your friends were doing, and whether one should or shouldn't intervene. With strong opinions on both sides, hence the huge debate. I really don't understand that.

ah Xposted and better I see

tethersend is amazing at the multi-link thing ... genius.

I think, though, it's partly a question of expectations. If I went on S&B and posted 'Hi - I have been thinking, it is awful that women have to remove their body hair, so I'm going to stop, who's with me?', I'd get a fair few 'WTF' type responses. Similarly, when Bonsoir gets bored and comes on here to suggest that anyone who doesn't tweeze their bumcrack or whatever is a slob with no self respect, she gets short shrift.

It's not necessarily about a level of bitchiness or posters being 'scary'.

Oops, did I ruin the momentary rapport? Blush

CrapolaDeVille · 12/07/2011 17:55

I wonder how many people have been insulted on AIBU but still frequent?

iMemoo · 12/07/2011 17:55

I'm not trying to misrepresent the feminist section. I spend half my time on MN reading the threads in here and think the regulars on here are inspirational. I'm just being honest though and if somebody is aggressive like that then yes it does put me off posting.

IroningBoardForSurfBoard · 12/07/2011 17:55

CrapolaDeVille · 12/07/2011 17:56
