I'm thinking about starting a blog providing a feminist critique of every film I watch, in order to prepare for my dissertation, which I'll need to start considering soon.

However, I'm having a serious creative bypass at the moment, and am feeling little inspiration. This must have beenn how Transformers was made. So, was wondering if any of you wonderful people had any suggestions for me, please? [hgrin]

Ooh, the Departed was on my list of ones to watch again. The first time I watched it, I was a bit more naive than I am now.

My bro-in-law got me to watch it a few months ago. It's one of his fave films, but I sat there like [open mouthed shock]

Catitain, I love it! I'll be starting it tonight. It's mainly for research for my studies, but I'll hopefully keep it running for quite some time. I'll let everyone know when it's up and running properly.

Keeping your mind busy is the way to go, in my experience.

The best blogs are in my opinion often the ones done for personal purposes. They are much generally more spontaneous and thought provoking.

I do have a personal blog, one that witters on about every day musings, but this one is a mixture of something that interests me deeply, and something that will be a useful resource in a year or so, when it comes to deciding on my dissertation. Also gives me some useful practice if I do decide I want to go into Film critique, rather than production.

I'm looking at doing the same for literature, but this will be less regularly updated. (I'm a slow reader) I've already got a few items in consideration, including The Tenth Circle (Jodi Picoult), which I hadn't noticed at the time I read it (a few years back) but it harbours a lot of rape apologetics. But the film blog will be my baby, so to speak...

If anyone has any reccommendations for films to review, please let me know.

I'm thinking, as I liked both The Red Pill and Lights, Camera, Feminism, I might use LCF as a sub heading for the blog.

Last night I watched The Pumpkin Eater (1964) based on the Penelope Mortimer novel. Don't know if it was on the BBC everywhere. I'd like to read a review of that. I was in a bad mood after everything that happened to Anne Bancroft's character. The scene where she listens to her husband and doctor discuss sending her to a psychiatrist is so reminiscent of what happens to Betty Draper in Mad Men.

I'll have a look for it later, floyjoy. If it was on the Beeb, then it should be on iplayer. Now off to write up about Up... Which is pretty... Well, it's Pixar... Pretty male dominated.

OK, thank you! I've decided I'm starting with Alice in Wonderland (2010) as it was actually hailed for being a feminist film, although I had a few criticisms of it when I covered it last term I'll save up for when I'm a bit more established, as it really is rant-worthy...

I like the idea of The Red Pill from The Matrix, but the words red and pill make me think of blood and the birth control pill

Maybe I've drunk too much wine, but that was my first thought when I saw it.

My (semi-drunk) suggestion is: 'Through the Eyes of' then you can add whatever word you want - feminism, womankind etc.
