I'm thinking about starting a blog providing a feminist critique of every film I watch, in order to prepare for my dissertation, which I'll need to start considering soon.

However, I'm having a serious creative bypass at the moment, and am feeling little inspiration. This must have beenn how Transformers was made. So, was wondering if any of you wonderful people had any suggestions for me, please? [hgrin]

Aha, the interesting thing about Fairy Tales is that originally, the weren't written for children at all. The Grimm's started collecting the tales which later became popular as part of a study. But when they published this collection, mothers started writing asking if they could make the tales more child friendly. So, we only have the children's fairy tales we know today as the result of pressure from mothers placed on the Grimms.

I'll see if I can find a link, as I lost my copy of the Grimm's fairy tales. :(

Peanut - loving the excited "ooo" [hgrin]

I'm looking at how narrative has developed from books to new media, how children access stories (do they read books? what games do they play? what TV do they watch? do they go online?) and whether the shift from traditional storytelling to immersive and interactive storytelling has had an affect on children's development.

It's more social science-y than I'd like, but I really want to find new stuff out instead of repeating old theories.

And that's a great idea - hadn't considered fairy tales, but I think I'll use them in my introductory background to storytelling (Victorians loved them, right ) and show how storytelling has progressed and affected different generations and morals.

And I realised last night that I am talking about feminism! I'm discussing how the media-induced moral panic surrounding children and the internet and whether it has a feminist agenda.

can't think of name - - - but inclue review of film - ok whose name I can't remember - about irish traveller - found it paveen lackeen - good film. Also, what about looking at non films but documentaries - the scheme etc? also what about guildford four film - can't think of name - interesting in terms of racism, maybe facsism .. also last exit to brooklyn..

Are you starting wiith the origin of Fairy tales for children? (ASnd yes, you can fit feminism in there...)

I did an essay on a similar subject on my access course. (that's why we had the excited ohooooh...)

It's on 'how new media has changed storytelling for children' (yawn). I'm beginning to regret choosing a topic which constantly evolves, as there is barely any updated research around.

And I haven't... still working my way round. Quick scan and I couldn't see her though (need to put on glasses...)

Maybe I've drunk too much wine, but that was my first thought when I saw it.

My (semi-drunk) suggestion is: 'Through the Eyes of' then you can add whatever word you want - feminism, womankind etc.

OK, thank you! I've decided I'm starting with Alice in Wonderland (2010) as it was actually hailed for being a feminist film, although I had a few criticisms of it when I covered it last term I'll save up for when I'm a bit more established, as it really is rant-worthy...
