To those of you that post in this topic time and time again. Who challenge bigotry, misconceptions and sexism where you see it. To posters like StewieGriffithsMum, Dittany, HerBex, AyeRobot, Himalaya, garlicbutter, seeker and countless others who take the time to post insightful, thought provoking comments that challenge deep seated mysoginistic views. I just wanted to let you know that there are many of us out here who don't post much (due to time restrictions/willingness to learn rather than talk right now etc) who support you and learn more all the time. And pass it on.

You take a lot of shit but I think you are making a difference. You may not be waving placards, jumping in front of horses or 'burning bras' (I know, a myth) but this (the internet) is the new medium for thought exchange and activism and you are making a difference. And the MRA know it too, or they wouldn't send in their trolls in every now and then.

Don't let the bastards get you down.

Sorry if that seems 'crawly bum lick' but I have nothing to gain for giving you support. Just needs to be said sometimes.

with that article it is a shame that the male is shown at the front and center of the group to the right

I've just followed you on Twitter Proles. I'm going to change my handle, it's Mrs. (My surname) Blush

TimeWasting · 08/06/2011 18:07

Changed it. Feel liberated. Grin

ChristinedePizan · 08/06/2011 18:35

I know PenguinArmy - really got on my tits but I was trying to not let it distract me from the article. I'm sure it was deliberate though.

I am now following you proles. I am the dull person from Kent who tweets entirely random rubbish most of the time Blush Sometimes I retweet interesting things

Is there something you haven't told me? Hmm

Another lurker just popping by to say that I love reading the threads in here .

I seldom have much to add that hasn't already been said and it always just seems a bit pointless to come on to say

I agree with ... insert someone more able to articulate what I mean .

LurcioLovesFrankie · 08/06/2011 18:57

Mostly lurker, occasional poster, and I love this bit of mumsnet.

In fact, you've inspired me to actually post in the comments section of yet another rape-apologist thread by a woman journalist here -
www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/christina-patterson/christina-patterson-sex-and-the-feminists-new-clothes-2294254.html
No doubt given the tone of most of the other comments, I'll get shouted down, but at least I'll be able to sleep tonight knowing I didn't leave yet another defence of rape myths unchallenged. Maybe some of you could join me and add more articulate criticisms of the article.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 08/06/2011 19:09

York is very easy by train from lots of places as it's on the big London-Edinburgh line that goes through Birmingham and so on - just in case that helps anyone! I regularly do Oxford-York and you can get tickets at vaguely affordable prices off-peak and booked in advanced.

(Ok, ok, I admit I just want to be in York because it's pretty! Grin)

steamedtreaclesponge · 08/06/2011 19:15

Hello everyone!

I've learnt such a lot from the women in this section, and I am definitely up for a meet-up at some point. I do think it would be great to do something before/after Reclaim the Night in London in November but would definitely be up for going to an event in York or wherever too... no idea about where I'd stay or anything but I'm sure I could sort something out!

Lurcio, I read that article this morning too. It took me a while to work out what the hell she was actually saying... and then I realised that it was all a load of crap so I should stop bothering Grin

ChristinedePizan · 08/06/2011 19:19

That's a bit better. Although I am vaguely tempted to also follow the evangelical crew :o

TheFeministsWife · 08/06/2011 19:26

This section of MN has opened my eyes so much since I started lurking here. I've always classed myself as a feminist, from as far back as I can remember (thanks mum Grin), but since reading various things here I can't believe the misogyny that is still out there in so many places. I do feel like I've woken up from a very long brainwashed sleep.

BertieBotts · 08/06/2011 19:29

A child-friendly meet up would be fantastic! The only reason I tend to avoid meetups usually is that getting childcare is a complete nightmare. It would be great to meet some RL self-identified feminists :)

Again not sure where I'd be able to stay but I'm sure could work something out given enough notice. Perhaps if there are a few of us travelling we could even rent a big house or something and have a feminist retreat Wink

sometime lurker, very occasional poster. Nearly gave up on MN cos AIBU stopped being funny and started to depress me, then I found this section. It has had a profound influence on me in a very short time.

Congrats on the pregnancy, Scallops!
I went to uni in Lancashire, so we've already got LOADS in common Grin

blackcurrants · 08/06/2011 20:07

A york meetup?

[cries]

Where were you all in the early nineties, when I was the Only Feminist In North Yorkshire?

Grin I mean, it's a great idea and I would absolutely come if i hadn't decamped slightly 3,000 odd miles away. But oooh York is lovely. You'll have a blast. I am very jealous. If I ever move back, I am going to find you.

Not as creepy as it sounds. Honest...

wem · 08/06/2011 20:10

Another lurker who's learnt loads from this section. You're all ace.

Not sure how I'd lurk effectively at a meet up, am I allowed to come along to the York meet up and nod at all the wise words?
