To those of you that post in this topic time and time again. Who challenge bigotry, misconceptions and sexism where you see it. To posters like StewieGriffithsMum, Dittany, HerBex, AyeRobot, Himalaya, garlicbutter, seeker and countless others who take the time to post insightful, thought provoking comments that challenge deep seated mysoginistic views. I just wanted to let you know that there are many of us out here who don't post much (due to time restrictions/willingness to learn rather than talk right now etc) who support you and learn more all the time. And pass it on.

You take a lot of shit but I think you are making a difference. You may not be waving placards, jumping in front of horses or 'burning bras' (I know, a myth) but this (the internet) is the new medium for thought exchange and activism and you are making a difference. And the MRA know it too, or they wouldn't send in their trolls in every now and then.

Don't let the bastards get you down.

Sorry if that seems 'crawly bum lick' but I have nothing to gain for giving you support. Just needs to be said sometimes.

What Wearegoing said.

the feminist group has recently had a meeting in an upstairs room in a pub; they didn't have to pay anything for roomhire.

would need to check if:

  1. children would be allowed
  2. it was still available at weekends.

'Fessing up to being another lurker. I find this section incredibly interesting and informative, thank you from someone who's only recently been able to answer the loaded question 'Are you a feminist' positively and proudly.

Totally agree with all that has been said. I learn loads from posters here and read threads everyday.

What is mra by the way?

Another lurker agreeing with the OP and the additions through the thread. Wrong timezone to really contribute much, but read the threads with passion and pleasure. Have learned so much from this board. You're a brilliant bunch.

SybilBeddows · 08/06/2011 13:57

aren't the lurkers lovely? Grin

Another lurker here. Very much enjoy reading this section of the boards. Intelligent and articulate posts are a bit of a rarity on MN at times! Thank you all.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 08/06/2011 15:20

Crapola - sorry for not answering your question - I got distracted Blush

No, I'm not on Twitter - but am now intrigued as to who you think might have been me...!

CrapolaDeVille · 08/06/2011 15:44

Another lovely twitter lady is moving to Bristol....she has pink hair and writes amazing historical novels.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 08/06/2011 16:07

Well, I'm even more intrigued now....!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 08/06/2011 16:07

PS Thanks for the "lovely" intimation Smile

UrsulaBuffay · 08/06/2011 16:13

Cheers loudly

Here here,
I love the challenging topics that come up on here, I rarely have anything valuable to add but almost all of the threads make great reading!

lambethlil · 08/06/2011 16:23

I am Spartacus.

No excuse for not posting, except to say in RL if I feel uncomfortable about speaking up its normally because I should, and I do, much to DCs embarrassment.

I also feel its much easier challenging racism than sexism as in theory that fight has been won.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 08/06/2011 16:39

IC I'm a Bristol dweller but a northerner by birth (of the Lancastrian variety rather than the Yorkshire variety - although I have been known to cross the border on occasion Wink). I am sure there are other Bristolians in this section (I just can't remember them!)

I mainly lurk at the moment due to some work constraints and constant nausea (I'm pregnant) seems to be affecting my ability to articulate anything useful! Love this section. Feels like a safe area.

SybilBeddows · 08/06/2011 16:42

congratulations on your pregnancy Scallops!

sorry about the nausea, hope it improves soon.

PenguinArmy · 08/06/2011 17:37

I also agree with wearegoing although I've started to post in the hopes of learning how to write/say intelligent arguments so I can deal with people in RL better.

What I like is despite being rather Hmm about it at first, DH has really jumped on board as well which is thanks to MN.

ChristinedePizan · 08/06/2011 17:38

Echo what Sybil said.

I would love to come to a meet but will have to see how finances go - I am a very long way away and it will cost me £££ to get to York.

This article was published in the Standard today (I follow Vicky Simister on twitter). Am very impressed that the organiser of Slutwalk in London is so young - gives me some hope to know that young people have the fire in their bellies that I had at that age :)

On the 'MN feminists I love' front, where is sethstarkaddersmackerel? I haven't seen her around for ages (or have you namechanged?)

PenguinArmy · 08/06/2011 17:44

I think York would be difficult - unless someone picked me up on the way. Although I'm not in the UK until August and just don't fancy driving that far with a 17 month while 7 months pregnant.

I always look forward to Dittany's contributions, despite being completely at odds with them with I first started reading this section.
