I've recently found this corner of Mumsnet, probably following one of threads appearing on Discussions of the Day. - Probably around the time of International Women's Day. Thought about joining some of you for the London march - maybe next year !

But it seems to be a little bit hidden away to me, considering it's massive importance to women's well-being !

I know lots of you are pretty hot on campaigning ...

  • So how about a minor campaign to get MNHQ to mention Feminism more prominently.

eg. On the "popular threads" list
All the "product review" topics are listed at the bottom of the page FFS !
Surely women's rights are as important as the best choice of washing machine Wink

I agree with Dittany. There is a critical mass within one topic which I think is helpful, especially if people comne in via Active Convos and click the topic heading. Just a shame the topic is not more prominent, but at least it cuts down on the trolls.

I bookmark threads in my browser folders by category so that I can find them more easily.

There really is no point in having discussions about porn etc on mumsnet since the minority of sex-positive feminists are shouted down and told we aren't true feminists.

SGM, I quite like that suggestion.

What is 'feminist parenting'? Just wondering. I heard a woman on a train saying she wouldn't have children in case she had a boy and found he 'took advantage of his gender' - part of a much bigger discussion I was earwigging. I would have thought she might be an interesting mother of a boy although maybe such prejudice means it's better she doesn't have any kids. Anyway, is any opinionated woman raising daughters to recognise their strength and attempting to overcome injustice based on gender a feminist parent?

that's a really interesting question CrystalStair, why don't you start a thread?

CrystalStair · 22/03/2011 14:16

Will do.

IngridBergmann · 22/03/2011 14:21

I don't agree. This is first a parenting website, not a political one.

I don't subscribe to feminism as a political movement, and I don't want to see more of it than I already do on here.

Sorry. I hope that makes sense. But good luck anyway.

Hulababy · 22/03/2011 14:22

I think MN has too many topic headings as it is. It is because there are already so many that things are hard to find. Rather than creating more I would prefer to see some go and others be merged.

CrystalStair · 22/03/2011 14:24

Have started a thread in Chat so people who don't define themselves as feminists (like me) but really are might answer too. Think Chat is the right place?

IngridBergmann

Its not a 'parenting website' its a website for parents - not quite the same thing.

A 'parenting website' would only have two Topic headings: 'Becoming a parent' and 'Being a parent'. This website has 21.
