Do you think Pink is a feminist?

I think she is. There's little things she does in her songs and some of the stuff she sings about indicate she is. Plus I quite like her so secretly hope she is Grin

i think WRT the LM video, we need to accept that we are not ever in a permanent state of being. we are always learning and inproving, so something that Pink thought was acceptable years ago, she may be totally disgusted with now. i know there are things i remember from my younger days that i could shake myself for doing now, having the benefit of age and experience behind me.

thefinerthingsinlife · 25/02/2011 16:13

I think BooFuckingHoo sums it up pretty well

Totally agree boofuckinghoo.

The L M video was a fairly long time ago and I doubt if she had the chance to do it today she would.

TrillianAstra · 25/02/2011 16:22

I have said what I have to say about Pink already - I don't think anyone can say "X is not a feminist because a real feminist wouldn't do Y"

BooyFuckingHoo · 25/02/2011 16:27

i also think that feminism is open to interpretation. it is a scale. so what may be acceptable to some, will not be to others, but both will still be feminists.

That's it in a nutshell.

Both Trillian and BFH have hit the nail on the head.

But it's interesting how different the perception of feminism is isn't it?

frikonastick · 25/02/2011 16:34

i think she is yes.

also, about calling girls stupid, thing is, unless someone POINTS IT OUT many girls dont think pandering to men IS stupid.

sometimes its quite useful to have someon saying, hang on a minute see how this looks from the other side.

i dont think thats the same as blaming them for mens behavior.

frikonastick · 25/02/2011 16:35

um cross posts with much more erudite posters, sorry :)

CrazyHorse · 25/02/2011 16:37

Exactly, HopeForTheBest.

"misguided girls" doesn't have quited the same ring to it.

BooyFuckingHoo · 25/02/2011 16:39

"unless someone POINTS IT OUT many girls dont think pandering to men IS stupid."

i agree frikonastick

also think that Pink has had to play the game according to the boys' rules in order to get far enough to have a voice. if she started out as an all out feminist i highly doubt she would have had her foot through the door in the music industry. I'd far rather she hid her light for a period in order for it to shine to a bigger audience later than to never get to shine it in the first place.

Was Paris Hilton a victim Dittany? Genuinely I'm not sure. Like most of that type they crave publicity and will do anything to get that publicity.

I do agree that many of today's female artists are styled and marketed to a male agenda.

hymie · 25/02/2011 16:48

Maybe Paris Hilton doesn't think of herself as the victim?

Being offended on her behalf while she still perpetuates the media circus isn't really addressing the point.

She had privilege from birth and she knows what she's doing.

frikonastick · 25/02/2011 16:48

also dittany she may be directing her comments to women because she feels thats the place to start.

like, i feel with feminism unless womne strt opening thier eyes, nothing is going to change

i guess i relate to her in that my agenda is with other women, not men.

if you see what i mean

men have made it so that the only way to get that publicity is use your sexuality. in this respect i think PH is a victim.

frikonastick · 25/02/2011 16:58

i really want to argue enter into a discussion with you about this dittany, but you are smarter have had more pracitce than me!

DeidreBarlow · 25/02/2011 17:04

Dittany fair enough I genuinely had no idea of the circus around its 'release'. So yes in the case of that video PH was most definitely a victim.

frikonastick · 25/02/2011 17:19

yes! am consoled

Grin

it is a tough one though isnt it, because i really do feel like the women she was having a go at, like jessica simpson, really IS a victim. and paris hitlon for that mater (as far as the sex tape thing, it is HORRIFFIC that her ex got away with that). but at the same time, like i said, i think there is so much payoff by the patriachy for behaving like these women do, there are hardly any voices saying NO. dont do it, look at what you are doing to yourselves. and parodying their (specific) behavior.
