Feminism chat thread II

Since it looks like the first chat thread is about to fill up, here's the next one all ready and waiting.

Think of it as the gated commune with babysitting on demand and gorgeous poolboys serving the drinks :o

SQ that webchat so far looks like a spectacular own goal :)

SardineQueen · 24/02/2011 11:33

Yes unrulysun but I don't think he/they care, do they? They just love a bit of attention and have the skins of rhinos.

Why is he even coming here? I suppose all will be revealed later!

SardineQueen · 24/02/2011 11:34

I finally managed to post on that insurance thread, MN is fixed. It was awful not being able to post - DH was checking my blood pressure in a concerned manner!

I don't know if anyone was following the Nigel Farage webchat but he (and Alan Sugar apparently) seem to be of the opinion that women of child-bearing age shouldn't be employed by companies because they cost them too much money Hmm. Men having children obviously don't cost companies anything because they only choose to have children with these anonymous beings without jobs or lives in general so it has no impact on the rest of society!

Sorry rant over! Needless to say the webchat didn't go well!

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 24/02/2011 14:45

In fact read back over some of the earlier questions I missed and the man is a numpty! Loved the Assange question Lenin, loved his answer less!

He did rather! But tbh he hardly played to his audience - dismissing a sexual harrassment case being brought by a former UKIP member against another member by trying to discredit the victim; the comments about employing women of a child-bearing age; badly handling a question from LadyBlahBlah about a comment he had made comparing being in Europe to being raped etc etc. I reiterate - he is a numpty Grin

That was pretty damning Lenin! Sounds like they would have to come up with a miracle to overturn the decision!

Just started reading through Nige. Had to share this though "In terms of political philosophy, UKIP and the BNP are polls apart." Bless. What kind of 'polls' are they then? Maybe it was a witty electoral play on words, or maybe not.

Unrulysun · 24/02/2011 21:25

I assume he wanted to spend time with us because he sees mothers as a conservative group who will be frightened easily persuaded of external threats. I assume he thinks we can't read or think for ourselves and I assume that, in his tiny misogynistic little brain, he rather thinks we'll be grateful for a nice man to come along and tell us all what to do.

someone probably said as much in a meeting and then they all scratched their chins a bit and someone vaguely informed said 'Ah! Don't they all hang out at whatjermacallit? Netmums is it?' and a plan was born.

Tosser.

Maybe that was it. He doesn't like the way places outside of the UK are taking over our turns of phrase.

Tosser indeed.

He really said, on here, that all women from the age of puberty to the menopause shouldn't be employed Hmm Way to go Nige. Maybe it was actually a disgruntled Kilroy determined to act out his revenge on UKIP.

SGM I am easily confused - HK did write Eve Was Framed, didn't she?

It's true unruly! As soon as a female has a baby she is presumed to be a conservative. WTF is that all about.

I imagine that nige is going to bring in a really generous state solution to the removal of employers maternity responsibilities.

My guess is that when women become pregnant they will immediately stop working, and from that moment until the child is a year old the woman will be paid 100% of her salary directly from the government, to compensate her for loss of earnings and teh inconvenience of leaving her work.

Once a year is up the woman will be offered a range of new jobs which are suitable for her salary level, experience and locality, and the hours she now wants to work. The 100% pay will be maintained until she has found a role which is a good fit. If she wants to SAHM she will sign that form and step into the glittering aray of new benefits for SAHP. The jobs offered will be collated from a ringfenced pool of jobs which employers will be compelled to set aside for women returners.

I imagine that's the sort of thing he has in mind anyway, it seems quite obvious to me Grin
