Gosh.

The Greens were on the ball then.

I am a bit Hmm that they didn't duplicate the full offensiveness of his comments but gave a lot of air time to his later frantic back-pedalling.

yogididabooboo · 21/02/2011 22:35

Thank god for that.
I simply cannot even contemplate the damage that man could do in his position.

MsHighwater · 21/02/2011 22:47

"He;s the only conservative MSP in Scotland". No, he's not. Offhand I couldn't say how many there are but Annabel Goldie and John Scott are certainly in there.

MsHighwater · 21/02/2011 22:49

16 according to Scottish Tory website

Good.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/02/2011 00:21

hooray! He obviously feels like he's been really hard done by. Poor lamb.

There's always more to these useless Tory rape apologists resigning than meets the eye, if you ask me :o

sakura · 22/02/2011 00:59

so he didn't apologize Hmm so he doesn't get it. He was just "misrepresented"

Good riddance!

sakura · 22/02/2011 01:03

A good thing to come out of all of this is that I hope the rapists are shitting themselves.
To see an MP publicly resign gives the impression that rape is taken seriously as a crime. I know in truth it isn't, but the fact that this canse has become high profile can only be good.

"Supt Thomson advised women not to go off on their own during a night out."

Superintendent of Strathclyde police.

What about advising men not to go out on the streets? As dittany points out, it's not women attacking people willy nilly, so why should women not go off on their own. Angry
I feel like writing a letter to this effect to Supt Thomson.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/02/2011 01:08

Glasgow has a pretty lamentable record when it comes to sex crimes. Seven street-working prostitutes have been murdered in Glasgow in the past decade, and fuck-all has been done.

sakura · 22/02/2011 01:13

Just sent one.

Something along the lines of

"We want the streets safe for women, and the best way to achieve this is to put a kurfew on men, and to make sure they're not wandering around at night." Grin

OLKN, I think the blogosphere will help. THe reason they (the police, the murderers and the courts) get away with it is because the truth is hushed up. It's a lot harder to conceal the apathy of the system these days and that is making women angry.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/02/2011 01:17

I think you mean curfew. :)

sakura · 22/02/2011 01:17

I mean the apathy is making women angry, not the fact they can't conceal it Blush

sakura · 22/02/2011 01:17

oh shit... curfew...

Oh well, it's not as if they're going to read it

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/02/2011 01:19

I'm not so sure the blogosphere will make any difference at all; there will be some anti-prostitution campaigners with their own agendas, and other with others.

I would be very disappointed in a police force that responded to blogs, tbh.

sakura · 22/02/2011 01:20

I mean women can see what's going on these days. The system is more transparent, and information is exchanged between them. Women can organize.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/02/2011 01:23

He's only resigned as "convener of Holyrood's justice committee", not as a MSP, btw.

sakura · 22/02/2011 01:37

yes.. misleading title
