Just wondering really. I have curves but I don't think I am fat yet I feel that I have to diet etc to fit some mysoginistic ideal. Do men really prefer thin women?

One word: the camera.

Once people stopped relying on the paintbrush to create likenesses they had a problem. The camera flattens people into two dimensions. So subjects look flatter and fatter. Women who would have looked stunning as oil paintings suddenly looked dumpy in photographs.

I do love beautiful clothes (but can't afford them sadly) and I do love beautiful things and people but equally I don't think any less of people who don't meet my exacting standards! Grin

I have found your replies very interesting. My aim is to tone up rather than be skinny. I have been skinny and I wasn't happy.

I like to look good for me. Not for anyone else. I do think that we have IMPOSSIBLE standards to adhere to and I do think that age and wisdom should be celebrated but sadly is sidelined for young, perky ladies.

In a different culture women would be celebrated no matetr their style, age and appearance.
