Elephants had this idea!!

So I'll start

"we're not a homogeneous mass..."
"I don't like to be too narrow..."

OP posts:
HerBeatitude · 25/11/2010 21:48

LadyBB she never ever says what the answer is though.

Hence the negativity.

I didn't know about homogenous mass btw, it's a bog standard argument, I don't associate it particularly with sm.

Well then clearly you do own it, sm. My mistake.

HerBeatitude · 25/11/2010 21:50

And also Ladybb, why wouldn't a feminist answer be considered the one most of us agree with? We're feminists. This is the feminist board.

Why are we expected to politely say "oh yes there might be something in that" if people present us with a non or anti feminist solution?

Not that sm does btw.

scottishmummy · 25/11/2010 21:51

of course no one would be so sad to hold mn gripe.must be getting it wrong seeing you all say it too

of course a grown woman wouldn't be so daft as to single someones comment out

HerB - anyone who claims they have the 'answer' is talking a crock though?

What I see is that sometimes the feminist status quo is questioned in order to explore new ideas and new ways of thinking, where there are no answers, you have to try and get there through debate, questioning and exploration - together - with the assumption that people on here are all after the same outcome.

You know what, in that process, sometimes you might say something that is jumped upon for being 'antifeminist', which immediately quashes any new ways of thinking and exploration - stopping people from exploring an idea further. That is the sad part of all this.

wukter · 25/11/2010 22:00

yes, [GEIN] that's what I meant. Make something of it?

LadyBlaBlah · 25/11/2010 22:00

I recall the thread too SM. It was a particularly pathetic important point, apparently.

HerBeatitude · 25/11/2010 22:01

There is no feminist status quo. How can you question an orthodoxy that doesn't exist?

I don't understand whyere you have seen sm question a monolithic notion with her own honest, interested questions. I just haven't seen that. I've seen other posters do it, but can't recall sm ever entering a debate here with a genuine willingness to engage properly.

my mum imbued me with good work ethos.smashing role model

claig · 25/11/2010 22:05

it's not true to say that scottishmummy doesn't contribute positively. She always states her real views as she did on the November Book Club where she made good points saying that she didn't agree with the neuroscience stuff about brain differences. I agree with LadyBlahBlah that none of us have all the answers and that is why sm's points stop and make us think. I think it is natural for sm to be sensitive about this thread as she is often called a derailer, an anti-feminist and someone who is always negative. I agree with LadyBlahBlah that that is untrue of sm.
