Official MN presence at Reclaim the Night?

Hello

A few of us are planning on going to Reclaim the Night on Saturday 27th November - do you think we could/should meet up under an official MN banner? Some of us met up at the feminist conference at the weekend and it was quite hard to know who was who, and some of us missed each other, which was a shame. Plus it's a march demanding the streets are made safer for women, so sounds pretty MN friendly.

Thoughts please :)

I am definitely hoping people will feel ready to do this by the time of the Million Women Rise march in March.
It sounds like a good idea to me (though I'm only planning on going to the Leeds RTN, not the main one in London, so I doubt there'll be more than a handful of us there and I will be marching as my local group anyway).

Were you thinking of marching as Mumsnet Feminists or just as Mumsnet?

EvilAntsAndMiasmas · 27/10/2010 16:29

anyone?

haven't really got that far SSM - what do you think? Yes was thinking of MWR as well, but one thing at a time :) I am the ultimate faux-MNer anyway with the continuing absence of actual motherhood so feel that other people's opinions are more valid on this.

ROFL at my studious ignoring of SSM - anyone ELSE? :o

I'm definitely coming. Would be great to meet up with anyone else as I'm coming on my own Smile

thefinerthingsinlife · 27/10/2010 18:08

I'm going to the Portsmouth Reclaim the Night (not sure if anyone else on here is?) but i'm toying with the idea of going to MWR

sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 27/10/2010 18:20

I was thinking it might be worth starting a thread about Reclaim the Night outside the feminist section for any people who don't identify as feminists/all those other millions of feminists on Mumsnet who don't come to this section because we are all horrible.

not sure which topic though?

I did start one in AIBU btw - running now.

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 24/11/2010 23:19

Hi, hope you don't mind me bumping old thread but I am hopefully coming to RTN on Saturday (if XH will have the dc!!) and would love to meet up with some MNers to march with. Where and when are you meeting?

UmYeahLikeTotally · 25/11/2010 11:24

Hi TAFKA I'm going on Sat, would love to meet up too.

Not sure if there are any plans for a meet up yet...I'll be coming in to Charing X and walking down, maybe meet at Embankment tube??

Anyone else got any ideas or plans??

SupposedToBeWorking · 25/11/2010 13:57

I'd like to meet up too.

Don't know London well, but Embankment sounds sensible since it's near the RTN assembly place. Is there only one entrance?

UmYeahLikeTotally · 25/11/2010 14:21

There are 2, but I'd probably suggest the Villiers St exit, as Whitehall Place is then only across the road (pretty much)......

SupposedToBeWorking · 25/11/2010 14:58

Sounds good to me!

Thanks for bringing this up again - and doing it here, I got a bit nervous of the AIBU thread. Elephants (if you're reading): I cannot tell you how much I admire your cheerful persistance in the face of all that 'It'll do no good, you know'.

Will keep an eye here for any developments...

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 25/11/2010 16:45

Meeting at Embankment sounds like a great idea! I'll be wearing a brown leather coat (don't think any of you have met me, unless you're namechangers?) and most likely smoking - unless I have the dc with me!

What time do you want to meet? Think it kicks off at 6pm?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/11/2010 01:35

ooh hello

Sorry I am not a londoner so haven't been able to work out a good place to meet up - but glad that you've sorted it out in my absence :)

Will be lovely to meet you all on Saturday hopefully. Can someone wear a ginormous hat or something easy to spot? :o

Thanks STBW, that's really nice of you. I get a mental image of Eeyore standing in the lonely corner of his field, and intoning those kind of "why bother" statements. Always cheers me up...

AnnieLobeseder · 26/11/2010 08:29

I'll be there. What time are we meeting? And how will we know each other? I'll be wearing a raspberry coloured puffy jacket and have short dark red hair.

ReclaimtheNightLeeds · 26/11/2010 09:50

.

ReclaimtheNightLeeds · 26/11/2010 09:55

Shameless plug for RTN Leeds. Would be great to see MNers there too.

See reclaimthenightleeds/org.uk for more info

SupposedToBeWorking · 26/11/2010 11:21

Will be at Leeds in spirit Smile

Google says it's only a 5 minute walk from Villiers St to Whitehall Place, where the marchers are assembling at 6. How about meeting at 5.30 and heading on to Whitehall Place around 5.45?

This is a photo of the Villiers St entrance to Embankment Tube station. See the arch to the right of the entrance as you look at the photo - does it look like a reasonable convening place?

I don't have a ginormous hat but I have a pink cap and one with furry earflaps and I'll be wearing one of the two. I could bring an umbrella to stand under, but if it's snowing I don't know how conspicuous that will be!

SupposedToBeWorking · 26/11/2010 11:40

Ooh ooh, I know how to be visible!

My friend says he'll lend me his cycle lights which I can velcro to my coat in some way. There should be one white and one red.

Am meeting up with him this evening; will keep an eye on this thread and update on the velcro-lights phenomenon.

Grin @ Eeyore.

I'm so looking forward to it!

AnnieLobeseder · 26/11/2010 18:05

Oh, good idea STBW! I have a small blinky light that goes on my dog's collar for pre-dawn runs. That'll be plenty conspicuous!

Are any of you going to the MN party afterwards?
