Abnormal smear after a few years of gynae issues … worried

I’m normally a person to just say it is what it is and be positive … but I’ve had gynae issues for the past 3 years with a a CA125 and abnormal bleeding…was on a 2WW pathway and after loads of tests they couldn’t find a cause so reassured me and suggested a Mirena Coil which didn’t settle the bleeding so I’m also on the mini pill 18 months later.

Now I’ve had an abnormal smear with borderline changes and need a Colposcopy in 2 weeks time.

And I’m worried… this one is really bothering me because what if they missed something. I haven’t felt generally well for a while either.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Can totally understand you are worried, and I don’t think telling you not to be worried is likely to help! A couple of things:

  • Secondary cancer in the cervix (assuming your other worries are linked) is not common, and is more likely to be from a non-gynaecological primary. This is by no means a ‘don’t worry’ but just a tiny bit of a reality check. It might be something related to your other symptoms, or it might not.
  • You are going to get this issue treated

The thing you need to do is make sure your referral mentions the other symptoms and that you anyway mention it before the the colposcopy so any further investigations required are ordered asap. The system can work for you but you will need to be your own advocate to make sure they listen to what’s going on for you. As a doc once said to me - you aren’t the most important patient in my day, but you are the most important patient in yours.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. One step at a time.

How are you doing? Just seen your post and as a woman who had lots of bleeding issues I know how awful it is worrying x

I’m ok thanks results are borderline so repeat test in 12 months.

Am glad to hear you are ok. I hope the next test gives you an all clear!
