Anyone else excited about the women's euros? I'd love to follow the progress of the teams (especially England) with any football-supporting Mumsnetters. Thrilled that it's a home tournament, commiserations to Scotland and Wales for not making it through qualification. Huge congratulations to NI, qualifying for the very first time.

Doesn't have to be just match-related, either - comments on the background to each women's team (especially from non-British fans), and of course the kits all welcomed.

I'm watching everything on catch-up, so I'm really behind! England look superb, Germany look ominously ruthless. France have been dealt a serious blow by Katoto's injury. We'll see what they look like tomorrow, but for me the standout favourites are now England and Germany. France, Sweden, Netherlands and Spain could put paid to one of Eng or Ger's hopes, but not both.
Is anyone else gobsmacked by the improvement in the overall standard since 2017? The technical standard, the fitness of the teams, tactical awareness, goalkeeping are all at a much higher level. As is the commentating and punditry. Special mention to Farah Williams for her style game and insights. I hope she and Izzy Christiansen become coaches. They are so on the ball.

Yes the level of play has improved immensely, especially the goalkeeping. You see it in the WSL and it is great seeing it carried over to international level.

Tomorrow's matches are going to be difficult in the hot weather.

WomenFootyPlayersSpitLess · 18/07/2022 20:22

I’m loving watching all the matches - more of this please!

DuncinToffee · 18/07/2022 20:34

We are watching Italy v Belgium.

DuncinToffee · 18/07/2022 21:59

And Belgium are in the quarter finals, first time ever for them.

Italy was disappointing.

DuncinToffee · 18/07/2022 22:03

England v Spain, Wednesday
Germany v Austria Thursday
Sweden v Belgium Friday
France v Netherlands Saturday

BellaAmorosa · 18/07/2022 22:55

I'm still none the wiser regarding France. Netherlands are also an enigma. That match-up will be fascinating.

Netherlands lost Lieke Martens to injury now as well. They really need to defend better, I have my doubts if they can.

Undertheoldlindentree · 20/07/2022 05:40

Only just realised this is on (no fixtures in my part of the country and don't watch much TV or do social media). Saw news report on England/Norway game but didn't realise was held in UK. Feeling very stupid and now watching for ticket releases. 🙄😄

I would say 'living under a rock' but that sounds cool and damp and it's anything but that here right now...

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 20/07/2022 06:31

Am loving this tournament!
Am lucky that we managed to get tickets for a match which was amazing!
Looking forward to watching England tonight.

It really hasn't been that well promoted outside of the BBC.
A real shame and you missed some quality matches.

It would help if they used Janssen as a central defender to partner van de graagt (sp?). Although I understand the coach's dilemma since she contributes so much to the attack when playing at lb.

Predictions?

I go 2-0 England.

BellaAmorosa · 20/07/2022 19:19

@DuncinToffee
I'm going 4-1. With their tricky technical players, Spain might get a penalty. I think we will score a lot. Not many chances, but we will take them.

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 20/07/2022 19:28

2 - 1 England.
Spain to score first then we come back big time! 🙌

2 or 3-0 to England

tobee · 20/07/2022 20:37

Sorry if it's been discussed before but I hate the thunderclap.

Boo offside! But seemed obvious

DuncinToffee · 20/07/2022 20:38

Offside, shame

DuncinToffee · 20/07/2022 20:40

The thuderclap belongs to Iceland, anyone else doing it is just silly
