Anyone else excited about the women's euros? I'd love to follow the progress of the teams (especially England) with any football-supporting Mumsnetters. Thrilled that it's a home tournament, commiserations to Scotland and Wales for not making it through qualification. Huge congratulations to NI, qualifying for the very first time.

Doesn't have to be just match-related, either - comments on the background to each women's team (especially from non-British fans), and of course the kits all welcomed.

Here is a link to the bbc Women's Euros page.

Disagree with Gaby Logan there, Sweden were not the favourites coming into this match.

littlbrowndog · 26/07/2022 21:52

Am Scottish but loving your team 👏👏👏

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2022 21:53

Amazing team, amazing fans

Rooster25 · 26/07/2022 21:55

Can I just ask if any of you on this thread will be following up this euphoria and going to watch women’s domestic football this season?

littlbrowndog · 26/07/2022 21:58

I think I will. Am a tennis player. But one of my tennis girls plays football at Stirling.

I just like womens sport tbh.

tobee · 26/07/2022 21:59

I try to watch the highlights package on bbc

tobee · 26/07/2022 22:00

I'm more of a women's cricket fan but I watch as much live sport of all kinds as I can.

Boobygirl · 26/07/2022 22:00

@Riverlee 🤣 Oh my goodness… I’m so happy for them! Hoping this increased interest in women’s football!

SpindleInTheWind · 26/07/2022 22:00

Alex Scott is bang on about investment

tobee · 26/07/2022 22:02

I understand why it happens but it's always shocking when you see salary comparisons

littlbrowndog · 26/07/2022 22:02

Once we can see success it will hopefully go through to grassroots and funding will follow

not sure about Scottish football though. My junior friend funding in football was just pulled

I follow it via FAplayer and hope to visit Walton Hall Park this season.

SpindleInTheWind · 26/07/2022 22:02

My DD played football in junior school then nothing at secondary was available. Crazy.

Obviously she did some sport but it was sad she lost football because she loved it at school.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 26/07/2022 22:04

We’ll done England

tobee · 26/07/2022 22:04

Do US women do well because they don't have comparable mens soccer profile?

Pushing30 · 26/07/2022 22:05

Amazing performance from England! So excited to I go watch England in a Euro final on Sunday!

Yes, arranging to see some matches.

Florenz · 26/07/2022 22:08

US women do well because girls can get athletic scholarships, a free college education saving $100,000 or more by being good at soccer. So it's very competitive.

littlbrowndog · 26/07/2022 22:08

It’s inspiring to see winners for our girls. Hope the federation’s see this is how it works in Scotland

Same with my DD. She joined a local team but there weren't enough other teams which meant they had to travel over an hour to play a game and it just wasn't doable.

DS played against some Reading Girls teams until the age of 14/15. I sometimes wonder if some of them made it to the 1st team.

wonderstuff · 26/07/2022 22:12

Just fantastic. My dd is 14 and started playing for local football team when they set up a girls team about 5 years ago, it’s been fantastic, loved taking her to matches in a Saturday morning, she made great friends and although she has decided to not continue next season I’m so glad she had those few years. We had to travel quite a distance first couple of years, seems university towns were first to set up girls teams but it’s really growing, FA were aiming to double female participation from 2018 levels. Her school also has a girls team. Ian Wright is spot on about playing in PE, but local clubs also need to get involved.

We’ve been to Wembley to watch womens games a couple of times and the atmosphere is always so good.

Florenz · 26/07/2022 22:14

I think womens domestic football is always going to struggle a bit because it's up against the established mens football and there are so many games on TV. But the womens tournaments in the summer of odd numbered years will continue to gain popularity.

wonderstuff · 26/07/2022 22:16

The US soccer has been a really popular girls sport for a really long time as well, much more accessible for girls than American football I guess. And they’ve never been banned from pitches by their national association either I guess?
