I'm interested due to the hype of the film.

I thought it was crap.

Mawkish tosh imo.

PandaG · 22/02/2010 19:32

no imo. I hated it, as did all my book group!

wonderingwondering · 22/02/2010 19:32

I didn't like it - bought it in hardback when it was first published, but didn't like the story, and didn't like the way it was written. Was quite lightweight in style, I thought, and that's unsuitable for the subject matter.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 22/02/2010 19:32

no.

wonderingwondering · 22/02/2010 19:33

Ah, nickytotimes puts it better than me. I agree.

Lulumaam · 22/02/2010 19:33

actually, i really enjoyed it! it was an interesting concept. not sure i fancy the film though

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 22/02/2010 19:35

well i have a copy here, that i havent read if anyone wants it ffp

bellabelly · 22/02/2010 19:37

I thought the first half was great and real page-turner stuff. Then it all got a bit crap and I kind of had to force myself to finish it.

scottishmummy · 22/02/2010 19:38

lovely bones is schlocky badly written dross.poor character development

pagwatch · 22/02/2010 19:39

a really good friend gave it to me and highly recommended it.
I read it and became quite worried in an "is it me?" way.
I was hugely relieved when I cam on here and lots of other people thought it was mawkish sentimental shite too

missmoopy · 22/02/2010 19:44

I loved it! Daren't see film in case I am disappointed.

Loved it when I read it, now feel I was manipulated. Similar to Time Traveller's Wife - but I did realise that was shite as I was reading it

2old4thislark · 22/02/2010 19:52

Loved it.

Kyrie · 22/02/2010 19:55

The film is worse than the book but both are pretty terrible - mawkish is the right word.

BendyBob · 22/02/2010 19:58

I couldn't get on with it although the story, as I roughly understand it, appeals to me.

Mind you that could just be me. I find books so much harder to concentrate on as I get older. I have to be wowed from page 1 - I have no stamina with books these days

I should be glad so many books I've either meant to read or couldn't get into are made into films. Oh dear..what an admission to make in the Adult Fiction topic!

Megletwantsittobesummer · 22/02/2010 19:59

no, hated it. Dull as dishwater IMO.

MeMySonAndI · 22/02/2010 20:01

I got it because years ago it was the top book listed in the Richard & Judy's book club. Needless to say that now I avoid anything that was ever recommended by that program.

I found it badly written, and I don't know, an average book that didn't deserve much attention. However, one of my best friends loved it, she goes as far as saying that she has never felt a book so strongly.

sungirltan · 22/02/2010 20:02

it was ok. different. i think the book will turn out to be better than the film looks

PictureThis · 22/02/2010 20:05

Hated it. Reading it took such a lot of effort for very little enjoyment.

Nah don't bother reading it it's dross!

chegirlshadabloodynuff · 22/02/2010 23:15

I quite enjoyed it. I thought it was interesting.

I found the blurb a bit though. I am not sure if I remember rightly but wasnt there something like 'the best description of the afterlife I have ever read....'

How the bloody hell do they know its the best description of the afterlife?

I couldnt read it again though. I wont be seeing the film either.

MeMySonAndI · 22/02/2010 23:31

I liked the idea of heaven being exactly as you wanted, even if the only thing you wanted was a gazeebo.

chegirlshadabloodynuff · 22/02/2010 23:36

Yes I like that too meandmy.
